my fridge, a 10-year old Amana stopped cooling 2 days. It still runs,
but only blows cool air. And the freezer can't freeze anything at all .
Anybody has any suggestions on what i should do to have a quick
diagnosis? If i have to repair, any suggestions on who i should contact
please? I am from Kirkland, Wa.

Where I live we have a special phone book with yellow pages in it. You look
for the heading that says "appliance repair" and call the numbers.

And you might well find that it is likely that a new, more efficient,
refrigerator is a cost effective alternative to a several hundred dollar
repair. Look for the heading that says "appliances, dealers"

Make sure the outside coils - in back or underneath - are not clogged
with dust and other crap. Otherwise it sounds like you need a new
compressor.

That usually means that the defrost heater(s) have burned out and the
cooling coils are covered with ice. If you can get the inside back of the
freezer off and can see this, then get a fan, aim it at the ice, defrost
it, and you can buy yourself a couple weeks you get new heater(s), which
you can replace yourself.
