I forgot to give the answer I received from Oxo.

"You are correct that the lid mechanism, as well as the flat storage lid,
are top rack dishwasher safe. Air drying is the recommended method of
drying.
A new OXO GOOD GRIPS Salad Spinner with a two-part lid will be available
at retailers and at www.oxo.com this fall. The lid comes apart for
cleaning."

I guess they are saying that it would be better for the lid to come apart
for cleaning.
This ticks me off to always be a 'dollar late.' (or something like that --
teee heee).
