Default Orange peel

I'm wondering if someone had
any experience with orange peels as a means of lowering blood suger. I've
been eating the orange peels for a month or
so after an advise given by a
guy who told me the tangerine
peel would do the same.
I rationalize that if the tangerine peel would be benefic so would the
orange peel. And so doing I'm experiencing a subsantial decrease in my blood
sugar
that surprised me. I'm type II
and I sill take my pills along
with the orange peels and the
results have been quite astonishing. Does anyone have
any similar experience?

Sounds distasteful, but tell us more.

Have you pre and post tested on multiple occasions? If so, what did you
find? How much of a difference was there? Was there ever no difference or
an undesirable difference?

It's very easy to fool oneself with the placebo effect. Much of the
multi-billion dollar supplement industry is dependent on this "effect."

Many of us have experienced more than one miracle claim that tasted awful
and did nothing, so please excuse our skepticism.

Anybody ever try smoking banana peel? "Call me mellow yellow." Cough cough.

To me, orange peel tastes horrid unless it is cooked many times and drained
to remove the bitterness, then candied. That's the only way I like it. So
your method wouldn't work for me.

I have a Type II neighbor who is always trying one thing after another. He
spends a lot of money in supplement boutiques, buys books that claim natural
cures and such. He got me to try bitter melon tea. The package touts its
effectiveness against diabetes and comes from the Philippines. That stuff
was expensive, nasty and DDS (didn't do sh*t).

Everybody has the right to say anything based on their own experience. I
kind of respect that.
However I have to say that this is not an experience that has happened one
time, day by day I've seen the results of EATING
those orange peels. I was kind
of deceptive of the Metformin and Glyburide in combination,
I was having results that were
up to the 200 sometimes,until
I started eating those peels
of the orange (not cooked) and
after afew days I was having
my 110, 120 and 90 depending of what I ate the night before.
Fellows, this a bad enough desease to surpress any sugestion believe me. and
I was
so sceptic before with the advises on teas, herbs and so on that I decided
to stop and
stick to my Metformin and Gly buride togheter at a time.
Until I said, I won't loose anything if I tried, the worst
that could happen is a biterness
in my mouth everytime I eat them.
But miracle of the miracles, it
real works, however you've
got to be carefull because if you eat to many of those peels
and take the pills simultaneously your blood sugar is going to go down,
down the hill. I made thatmistake a couple of times but now I'm in control,
my average
is about 95 to 110 all the time.
I'm not an idiot, I've been diabetic for a long time Iknow what I'm talking
about.

G'day G'day Jmateus,

Posts such as yours get people wondering. After all eating orange
peel is outside most people's experience. Most people peel their
oranges or mandarins and discard the peels. IMHO this is unfortunate
as the white substance under the orange part of the peel is rich in
pectin, a form of soluble fibre. Almost everyone in Western society
could do with more fibre in their diets however soluble fibre is
something T2s need more than non-diabetics. OK, we all need a
balance, the balance shifts towards soluble fibre for T2s.

It has been quite a while since I did some internet searches on
fagopyritol in buckwheat. IIRC, related compounds are present in
citrus peel, though in a less available form.

If you are interested try Google Newsgroups.
(Google Web won't help.)

Use the search string,
fagopyritol "Quentin Grady"

You can refresh my memory with what you find.

Does it lower blood glucose? Sorry I can't help you there even though
I happen to have eaten mandarin peel quite regularly at lunch times at
work. it wasn't a time when I measured blood glucose so I don't know.

Hope I've been of some help,
Best wishes,
