It's a sugar alcohol. It contains calories, can act like a carb in the body
for some people and can also act like a laxative in some people, which it in
fact it. Beware!

Many sugar free candies contain this stuff. I don't know if you'll find any
jams that contain it. I should think they would use Splenda or something
that is not a sugar alcohol in a jam.

I just bought some Polaner sugar free preserves (strawberry,
raspberry, and blackberry; there were others) sweetened with
Splenda. A 1 Tablespoon serving (17 grams) has 5 grams total
carbohydrates (vs. regular, which had 13 grams total). The website
is www.bgfoods.com, but I could not find anything about the sugar
free stuff. Mine was purchased at a local large chain grocery
store, Giants.
