I'm very worried about him. He's four years younger than me and has been T2
for at least 20 years. He's on a couple of meds, might be shooting insulin,
but his BG numbers suck. His FBG was 167 today and one or one and a half
hour PP was close to 300. He doesn't worry about it! He is the most
pig-headed person I've ever known. He's in CT and I'm in CA, otherwise I'd
be able to have more effect on him. He saves all my emails, but I think
they must be in Write Only Memory!

He's not on Usenet, so can't get this group. Two questions:

1. What are some web sites that might wake him up?

2. What's a free, easy to install and use, newsreader that he could use to
get a.s.d?

Yes, Charlie! Now my friends on alt.support.diabetes know who you are! °!D

People not on Usenet can get it at:

<http://groups.google.com/group/alt.support.diabetes/topics?hl=en&lnk=rga>

It takes extra effort to filter out the spammers and trolls there,
though.

Under which operating system? Under many versions of Windows, but
not Vista, Outlook Express. Under Vista, Windows Mail. Under Vista
and XP SP2, Windows Live Mail.

For a free newsgroups provider, if your internet provider doesn't have a
newsgroups server, try:

At the risk of sounding immodest, you could always send him
here (mine):
http://loraldiabetes.blogspot.com/2006/10/d-day.html
or here (Jenny's):
http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/index.php

Cheers, Alan, T2, Australia.

Jenny's site, that you've already got twice (or buy him the book,
she's just brought it out).

But don't break your heart over him. He's an adult; if he chooses to
damage himself in that way, you have the choice of losing his love
through nagging, or biting your lip and just being concerned from a
distance. My big brother is ostriching, I know the pain.

Thanks, Alan. I'm emailing those to him, now.

I copied him on the above post of mine and received this reply:

"NICK: OFFICIALLY I'VE HAD SWEETPEA FOR 30 YRS. COME OCTOBER. GABE [that's
his son, who got f'd up in the first Gulf War] IS MY ONLY REASON FOR
DEPRESSION. MY BACK ( WHICH I MAY DO SOMETHING ABOUT) ISWHY I CAN'T
EXERSIZE. MARIE [that's his daughter, the MD] TOLD ME ABOUT AN IMPLANT THAT
HELPS KEEP THE VERTIBRE SEPARATED ( REDUCING THE PAIN). IT REQUIRES A 1
INCH DEEP (MORE OR LESS) INCISION OVER THE VERTIBRE WHERE A SPACER IS
INCERTED TO RELIEVE THE PRESSURE FROM A FRAGMENTED DISK. IF IT WORKED I'D
BE ABLE TO ATLEAST WALK MORE AND MAYBE LOOSE SOME WEIGHT.
CHARLIE"

He never writes in all caps, nor with so many misspelt words, so I don't
think he was too happy with what I posted.

Thanks, Nicky. I'm emailing him both Jenny's and Alan's sites.

Of course I worry about him, but I don't break my heart over it. We
understand each other. I don't nag. I curse and give him tough love. He
doesn't always like it, and curses back at me (we're from da Bronx, ya
know),but we get along fine. If he wants me to MMOFB, all he need do is
tell me. ;-)

Synmpathy for you both. There seems to be a major "whoosh"
factor here. A failure to communicate.

Best wishes.

From the all-caps email... I think he did :P Of course, you could
find him back-supported exercises?

Thanks, Alan. I haven't heard back from him since I sent the URLs for
Jenny's web site and your blog. Perhaps he's absorbing data (there's sure
a lot of it). We'll be fine. I've been his big brother since 1939. ;-)

Heh heh! Thanks, Nicky. Yes. I think he was a mite ticked off. He'll stew a
while, then get over it. We've had many tiffs over the years. ;-D
