I have looked again and checked with the food allergy forum. Not much response yet, although I know there are several people who live in the area where they are produced and are likely to be familiar with them. It seems the most common oil to be put in vegetable shortening is soybean. I don't totally avoid this. I just figure I am getting enough of it in restaurant meals. I do buy Benecol, but probably eat it only about every 2 weeks. The oil itself never seemed to cause a problem for Angela, and I think for me as well it is more of a problem with soy protein or the whole soy beans. If it is just soybean oil and maybe some other stuff like palm, cottonseed and corn, I will just use up the box (when it arrives) and not buy them again. Unless I really super like them and then... I don't know. They have gotten rave reviews. Mostly the concern then would be wheat, peas and lentils. I don't think I have ever seen pea or lentil oil, but you never know. And it's not likely they would use wheat germ oil. I had assumed all of the top 8 allergens had to be disclosed. That would include wheat and soy. Although I am not sure about the soybean oil since it is technically not considered to be an allergen as it doesn't have the protein in it. |
