Like when?
I give you a pretty good answer to your "how could he reply to every message
with his name in it" question, why are you bring so arsey about it?

Then why the feck is he trolling? You expect someone with a PhD to have
grown out of that kind of playground behaviour.
(Hint: This is crossposted, I don't give a toss about kibology, I'm posting
from an entirely different group)

OK, Thanks for the warning, I'll killfile the arsehole from now on then.
Or just sit back and watch him make a fool out of himself without replying
further.

BTW, give me one good reason why I would know who this otto idiot is?
He could've been someone from, say, the usage.english newsgroup who knows
sod all about usenet's history OR computers (hence his stupid comment about
DOS/Windows not having grep)

I don't see a riddle, just a troll.

But what you're NOT getting, is that some people really ARE as clueless as
he was pretending to be. So you can knock the negative points straight away.
How do YOU determine when someone's GENUINELY clueless vs taking the ****?

1. I don't have a PhD.
2. Playgrounds are fun.
3. I dropped more clues than Blue's Clues.

What were the first four letters of the cryptic message again?
Ah, yes: "YHBT". You might want to google on that, because the
"Titanium Waist High Wading Boots award" didn't give it away.

Yes you do. And you're a fully licensed and board-certified
oncologist as well. And also the US Senator from Massachussets,
Ted Kennedy.

I've not encountered that one before. And I've been using usenet since '95.
Obviously we move in completely difference circles, so to speak.

At least I don't have to put up with noel edmunds sticking his head round
the door with a cheap gold coloured trophy shouting Gotcha!

When crossposting to 3 other newsgroups, expect people not to know your
culture of trollage or understand what the **** you're talking about half
the time.

You do understand other newsgroups don't act the same way as you? Or was it
one of you who started the crosspost in the first place in order to fish?

I think I'll graciously decline, if it's all the same to you.

I would be surprised -- nay, shocked -- to find ANY newsgroup that
acted as Marc does. I think perhaps your trembling, impotent anger is
getting in the way of you expressing yourself coherently. Or is
English not your first language?

Wasn't me. My computer does it automatically, so don't blame me.

So close...

....Ding! The light bulb is ON.

Of course we expect some people not to know our culture of
trollage -- it makes our job that much easier. On the flip
side, it is a lot more satisfying to troll some bozo who is
aware of trolling and swallows the hook anyway because it
was so skillfully dangled.

I should, however, explain the different types of trolls.
Kibologists are gentleman trolls -- it is only a practical
joke which we eventually reveal to you. The flaming and
insult trolls that just like to stir up trouble and tempers,
common on sports or political groups, are just assholes,
and they never go away (at least not till they quit posting
to the group).

HTH!

Personally, I view it as community service, much like picking
up trash by the side of the road. Once someone has been
trolled by a Kibologist, they're far less likely to be
a pompous asshole in the future. Also, it generally makes
them wiser and less likely to believe any old crap just
because someone says it. I think a healthy dose of
skepticism is good for society, don't you?

I AM GOOD FOR SOCIETY, DAMMIT, UNLIKE MCGONNEL.

That's why picking COLA as one of your crossposts was such a masterstroke.
WE only have the lying cheating argumentative type of troll.
(We call them wintrolls cos they actively support microsoft at the cost of
their integrity and honesty)

Your lot were a little too subtle for this newsgroup so it took longer to
twig, so to speak.

(Might I recommend the windows xp advocacy newsgroup, it's reputed to be far
worse than cola)
