Default Name of old cooking show

I'm trying to remember the name of this old cooking show that I use to
watch in the late 80's/early 90's. It was a 30 minute show that
featured a chef per episode and I think there was a guy narrating with
voice over during the show. It was on the dry side, but it featured a
number of chefs from a around the world. I think it was on pbs as we
didn't have cable.

Thanks for any help.

There was "Great Chefs of the World" but that had a lady narrator, starting
from 1982. It might have morphed into other shows. ??

Are you thinking of the "Great Chefs of <city_name>" series?

Maybe "Great Chefs of the World", the earliest version of which I can
recall was "Great Chefs of San Francisco." The narrator was a woman,
and the chef rarely said anything.

It was a "great chefs" series - I remember it clearly, male narrator
and all - the chef featured would hardly ever speak - just the
narrator. They had a fantastic program on chocolate desserts that I'll
never forget, where the chef formed liquid chocolate around a piece of
PVC pipe in a cylinder and then when it was solid and removed from the
form, he filled it with mousse, making a checkerboard type form around
the top of the tube. Can't remember the name, though - you're right,
it was on PBS.

As others have mentioned, likely the Great Chefs series. It started on
PBS as "Great Chefs of the World", then became a staple on the
Discovery Channel in the early days. Many variants, city or region
specific were produced. Reruns still show on Discovery Home.

But that wasn't a guy. It was that woman with the
super-thick antebellum accent. Not as gaudy a voice as
Paula Deen, but a lot of vowels went missing between
the cue-card and the soundtrack on that show.

Yeah, you're right. It was a lady mostly, and the chef almost never
spoke. Now, does this run on tv any more? I'll have to search.

The last I recall seeing it was on the Discovery Channel on
weekdays in the late morning.

The narrator was Mary Lou Conroy. The shows had been running on
Discovery Home recently, but I just ran a search and didn't see any
episodes scheduled for the next two weeks.

Sorry to piggyback on my own post. It was the Travel Channel,
not the Discovery Channel.

That sounds like the series on The Travel Channel ' Great Chefs Of The
World' narrated by a woman.

Very interesting series but didn't have printable recipes.

Don't know if it's still airing because I watch Epicurious now but they
have show recipe printouts either.
