Well, I went to our fishmonger today and finally found some tilapia
fillets (frozen) - so after all the discussions about it, I am going to find out what it tastes like at last! ![]() -- Cheers Chatty Cathy |

I wanted to buy enough for at least two "experiments" but I only saw one package of them (that has 3 nice looking fillets) - I obviously wasn't fast enough ![]() keep them for the weekend, so I will have time to "make a decision" ![]() -- Cheers Chatty Cathy |

I don't know if Cathy can get it where she lives, though. If not, maybe even cornflake type crust would work. There are so many ways to prepare tilapia; even mayo, capers, onion and lemon is good. Tilapia, Mayo, lemon, wrapped in banana leaves is good, too. Even beer battered and wrapped in a tortilla with cabbage and lime juice with salsa is delicious. So many options, so little time! kili |

Just like fish. Nothing about it that distinguishes it in any way from fish. It's the median fish. It's not really fishy, not really mild, not really firm, not really light, not really oily, not really dry. It's fish. And it's the future of human food. When the oil runs out and long-distance rapid transport becomes unfeasible every devolutionary village will have a large fish-farm breeding these all-but-indestructible swimming high-efficiency protein factories. --Blair |

The cod was far past it's prime when I got it home. I took it back, and all the cod was far past its prime. The grocer suggested tilapia. I battered and deep fried the tilapia. It tasted OK to me. My wife hated it. If I could have sold her on tilapia, we'd eat far more fish and chips than we do. leo -- <http://web0.greatbasin.net/~leo/> |

We do have Asian-markets around here that we shop at sometimes, and I will have a better look next time I go... -- Cheers Chatty Cathy |

It's not anything like cod. Cod is a light, flaky whitefish. But it probably makes an interesting fish-stick. --Blair |

But it probably makes an interesting > fish-stick. I do know what cod tastes like. I've only eaten one tilapia in my life and am unlikely to taste more. The important part of my family hates it and I don't argue. But it was cheap and so am I. Which reminds me, I believe tilapia live in extremely poor water. I know Lahontan Cutthroat Trout do and although I love trout, Lahontan Cutthroat tastes poor because of the alkaline water they live in. They're not even good pickled. They overpower the pickling agent. leo -- <http://web0.greatbasin.net/~leo/> |

We decided it would definitely be worth having again, will try baking it next time ![]() -- Cheers Chatty Cathy - who was very relieved that it did taste like fish. |
