Default Speaking of foi gras...

.... and other delicacy foods, I just finished a book called "Caviar: The
Strange History and Uncertain Future of the World's Most Coveted
Delicacy" by Inga Saffron. Very interesting analysis of the rise and
fall of the caviar industry and the ecological disaster of the sturgeon.
As food related books go, I don't think it matches Mark Kurlansky's
"Salt" or "Cod", but an interesting read nonetheless.

Now if I could just find some to eat.....

Used to get farmed pike and hacklefish caviar at Trader Joe's as well as
salmon caviar, but they don't seem to carry it any more. Darn, I'm
craving some smoked salmon, with a dollop of sour cream and caviar on
sour dough toast. There seem to be dozens of places on the web that sell
various varieties of roe, but I'm just not sure about ordering something
like that on the web. Anyone have any experiences they'd care to share?
