well, she did post something to rec.food.veg.cooking on Sept 4, so
she's still alive and kicking. Maybe she just doesn't like us anymore =(

What caused your computer hell? Mine. . .I just downloaded an upgrade to
McAfee and all hell broke loose. I had to format as there was too much
damage. I'm not using McAfee ever again.

My hard drive had to be replaced. The other one was completely kaput,
so I'm slowly adding programs and reconfiguring them to my want &
needs. Getting this newsreader (Agent v4) up to speed is really hard.
I don't know if I'll make it before the trial period expires. It's
such a bother, I haven't even thought about configuring Eudora yet.

That kind of stuff gets old after you've done it a couple of times. I find
I'm keeping less and less programs on the computer because it just isn't
worth the trouble. I have to re-create my entire address book and mailing
list from scratch. Good Luck!

On all of my earlier PCs I used to run a tape backup, but tapes are
notoriously unreliable and slow. Since hard drives have become so
reasonable, I install a 2nd drive of the same size as a slave. About once
a month I use PCI Clonemaxx to perfectly duplicate my primary drive. They
are then interchangable should the primary drive fail. This way I don't
even have to think about what's important to keep. Just switch drives and
I'm back in business. Worst case, I've lost a month's worth of changes.
Of course, the backup could be run more frequently.

Thanks Janet. I don't use very many programs that need attention like
that and I'm ready to kiss Agent goodbye. They've "improved" it so
much that the average home user can't use it easily. Too bad, v2.9
was excellent.

Have you ever tried Xnews? It's not as "pretty" as what I recall of Agent,
but I like it much better.
