Default Normally, I would walk right by them...

....but when I saw the price tag -- 39 cents *each* -- I stopped and
bought three Emeril-branded sweet eggplants. Big, beautiful, and sweet
as advertised. No salting needed -- cooked some slices in the oven and
put them on pizza, and they're delicious.

Not a big fan of the guy, but his brand of eggplants get a big thumbs
up Chez Serene.

The only "Emeril" branded anything I've bought was his BBQ sauce. It was
okay, but nothing special. I keep wanting to try his heirloom tomatoes,
but the suckers are just so damn ugly I can't imagine eating one of
them. Normally, I don't get put off by how something looks....(I eat
lobster, oysters, etc. all the time), but there's just something about
these things that sends a shiver down my spine.

I can't stand to watch Emeril, but I get nothing but fantastic results
with every one of his recipes that I try out. His LV seafood restaurant
is also one of the best places that we've ever eaten, so it must just be
his personality...

This endorsing of produce (and not just packaged foods) must be something
new. Recently five - pound bags of russet potatoes were on sale at my
market. The "brand"? Newman's Own...

Not so strange. "Newman's Own" started with salad dressing and with
the objective of donating profits to charity. They then branched out
and formed "Newman's Own Organics" with the same objective, and now the
Organics division has included produce. I have no clue whether their
organic produce will be good or fairly priced, but in my opinion their
record is good and their (quasi-corporate) heart's in the right
place..... -aem

Nope, his personality has nothing to do with why you don't like to
watch him... Emeril comes across as a schlimiel yet is very
successful... envy is a perfectly normal emotion. Emeril isn't a
polished orator but he's sincerely genuine, and he really can cook. On
TV he purposely behaves clumsily so folks are not intimidated so they
think they can cook too... that anyone can cook (it ain't rocket
science) is his schtick. Do you really think the producers, writers,
and editors are schmucks. BAM!

All TV food personalities become boring after awhile, so do all TV
shows... whenever I look at some of the old TV shows that were once so
very popular (like say Gunsmoke, Bonanza, The Cisco Kid, etal.) I
wonder what I ever saw in them.

The only reason folks act so infuriated about Emeril is their envy...
doesn't your TV have a channel changer.

I don't mind Emeril himself*, just the Jerry-Springer audience he has,
hooting like hillbillies for more beer in the batter or more garlic in the
sauce. His show "Essence of Emeril" doesn't have a live audience and is much
easier for me to watch.

His recipes are hit-or-miss with me; some turn out very well, others are
disgusting. (For an example of a disgusting one, try making his lobster
salad with vanilla mayonnaise. The mayo recipe is HORRIBLE; the infused oil
turns it into a carnival-fryer castoff.)

I've been to two of his New Orleans restaurants and one of his Las Vegas
restaurants. The meal I had at Delmonico in New Orleans will remain in my
memory as one of the best meals I've ever eaten, but the meal I had at his
Delmonico Steakhouse in Las Vegas made me sick. So it's hit-or-miss again.

* I have to qualify that by saying it *does* bug me when he says "pahblenno"
instead of "poblano."

I saw Paul Newman on a talk show (Leno maybe). He said it was his daughter
who wanted to start the organic line of products and he said go for it.
Apparently it's taken off.
