It appears there's been a quantum leap in the effectiveness of ISP's
to filter spam. That, or the 2003 anti-spam law is finally starting
to dig in. Whatever, I've not received a single spam in 2 weeks
through Comcast, not even to my local email client filters. About
damn time!

Now, if they'd only get the rest of the network/computing industry
outta my computer.

Hello, dear,
Pay no attention to xanthian; actually "xanthian" is just an anemic,
limp turd left in the gutters of California; stepped in, then tracked
into this news group, on the dirty feet of a psycho troll. So go ahead
.. . . killfile . . . kill em all . . . kill . . . kill . . . kill . . .
kill . . . opens up more band width for me.

I think all people posting from Google should kill-file you.

I happen to use easynews to read RFC, but almost all
my other Usenet is done on Google. The reasons are
complicated but sound. Unlike yours.

Some of us have no option other than Google. My ISP does not provide
email accounts or newsgroup access. I have to used webbased mail
accounts and read newsgroups in Google. That's the price I have to pay
for faster upload speeds. Should I stick with the incredibly
inefficient national phone company, I can have an email address and
newgroups at a blazing upload speed of 4KBS as opposed to my current
upload speed of 126KBS. Because I upload large amounts of material to
my classroom website, I'd rather have the upload speed and forgo the
newsgroup access from the hone company ISP.

Jude's one of MY favorite posters. Her culinary ideas are well-founded and
innovative, and I've gotten some VERY good recipes from her, including a
soup recipe which wowed my guests at a cookout earlier this year. (Of
course, it's entirely possible that my praising Jude will cause others to
find her guilty by association..)

How funny that you would say that. This thread made me realize I have
not received *one single* spam email since I signed up for Comcast.
Since I still have my old account, I'm still inundated with email from
some company selling services of some kind ... in French! I can't
get rid of them, they keep changing their 'name' ... grrrr.

It's been a relief. Also funny, I only get those Paypal and ebay phishing
emails to my old account. Haha, in case I didn't already know, you
are a fraud because that is not my address any longer!

That is the understatement of the year! That is the thing I miss about
my ISP not having email or newsgroups. But...I'll take the higher
speeds over low speed/complete stalling on uploads in place of the
email and newsgroups anyday.

nancy,

I am at comcast as well. In outlook express. To snag and delete mail
you can just create a new mail rule and enter @france and/or .com.fr or
..fr addresses to delete all those emails. I also have @yahoo and @hotmail
in effect as I don't know anyone who uses those mail systems. And I check
"Do not download it from server" as the action. Let comcast empty their
own trash!

I still get false "mail subsystem delivery error" emails. I know they're
false because they come into mailboxes that I assigned garbage Outging
SMTP server addresses to, so mail can't be sent from them.

I create new mailboxes for each website and listserv I register to. This
lets me see who's passing my email addresses around. I delete them in
junkiest first rotation if I run out of mailboxes.

Once I got an email from a software developer host site I used and it
wasn't sent as a Blind carbon copy, BCC. Every developer got an email
with the the entire site's mailing list (100s of addresses). In a not so
mild email I chewed the offender's head off for being so careless!
Luckily, software developers are a pretty noble bunch and nothing came of
it!

All the best,

Andy

The account I use here is not the private account so I know that any
Paypal, etc. mail is a fraud.

I do read the mail (what little bit that does not automatically go
into the junk mail box.)

I do not get junk mail at Roadrunner. I have the new Agent and am
trying to train the junk mail, but I don't seem to get enough. 4 in
over 3 months.

Back when Deja News still owned the archive and was up and running they
didn't display any posts with the x-no-archive header, not even for a
few days.

Steve,

But once somebody quotes you in a reply, replacing news header with theirs,
your quoted text will be permanently archived, unless "everyone" in the
thread also has x-noarchive=yes in use. Or so I thought.

cybercat,

Still, all original posts and replies sent with x-noarchive=yes will be
removed leaving the posting user unsearchable by name and the related
thread somewhat incomplete. Affording folks some measure of anonymity.

<cough> Thanks, you owe me a new keyboard... ;-)

Truer words were never spoken! <rofl!!!>

Women need a reason to have sex.
Men just need a place...

and the word "Yes" is the simplest of aphrodesiacs? <smirk>

Nonsense. Who would you get to do the heavy lifting?

The way I heard it: "Men are good for only two things, and one of them
is moving heavy furniture."

I love you too, darling.

But I'm a tad insulted that you don't remember replying to my
posts......you beat it through my head how to spell (and pronounce)
co-ti-ja cheese. So much so that i even went to the grocery clerk and
told them they had it spelled wrong on the shelf label. You made a
permanent inpact on my cooking....and my heart <3

Speaking of google, is it having trouble today, or is the problem on my
side? I've gone to www.google.com a few times today and gotten nowhere
with my searches. I just get the hourglass figure that it's thinking
about it forever, no search results.
