As sf said, it makes no difference which newsreader I have (and I have several) if the ISP doesn't have a news server and provide USENET access. If the ISP has no news server or mail server, it doesn't make a damn bit of difference which mail and news reader software I have because they are useless. We ALL use web-based email here - even school and corporate accounts are web-based email. I use an alternative method to access, which in this case is Google. The whole point I was making is not all ISPs maintain news servers and access to USENET. Those with ISPs like that must use alternative methods to access USENET - one of which is Google. -SD- |

I find it amusing (and somewhat frustrating) that some folks still just don't get it that not every ISP in the world provides all the bells and whistles they are used to in the US and other developed countries. They just assume that all ISPs operate the way US ISPs operate with all the services that US ISPs provide. They just don't get it that the technology game is all quite new in underdeveloped countries. Heck....not that I'm a big McIntaosh fan ....but you couldn't even buy a Mac here until this year...and there are still no places for repair of Macs - they need to be sent out of country for repair. One of the teachers has a Mac and it crapped out. he had to wait until he went back to the US to have it repaired. My Toshiba laptop needed repair..and I had to send it with a friend who lives in Tegucigalpa two weeks ago...there are no computer places in town to repair ANY computers. I should get it back this weekend. I cannot buy software in-country. I have to wait for trips back to the US or have a family buy it for me and send it to me. i'm probably going back to the US again in march for a teachers workshop..so that will be another software buying expedition. I did that in June when I went to a workshop in Alabama - brought back more software and other supplies. I buoght a new prionter here because I cannot get the ink for the printer I own in country. By the time I have freinds send it, the cost is double the original purchase price! -SD- |

Why don't you just shut up and keep using google. Wertz is the only one who really gives a damn. If your happy with google then just shut up and stop trying to educate people with knowledge you don't have. We have a dsl connection with nothing!!!!! No mail, no usenet. Yet I still use a real server and a real reader. My server could care less if I'm next door or in Honduras. All I need to do is connect. Better to remain silent and have people think you're stupid than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. Lou |

I couldn't care less what people use, myself. But the ISP thing, it's neither here nor there, I don't know why that keeps being raised. That was my point. nancy |

And from what I've read of this thread so did others. Some don't understand but that's ok too. I don't care how people post as long as there's fun, food, cooking, and new things for me to learn. I'm not sure if I've posted to these google threads, but I think not. The only reason I posted was because he/she? talked down to you and it ****ed me off cuz he/she is wrong and bullheaded. Lou |

They dont stay around if they are good , taxed out of busines and forced to buy out from Bill Gates et al .. Welcome to the USA ! If there is any profit in anything , the govt or its cronies are first allowed to "offer" you a sell out . Next its law suits , like the ones Bill does on copyright ,if that dont work , expect plain clothes G man at your door with a big gun and no I.D. All business in the USA is stolllen by corps , limited liabilty cronies . QWEST ...... ISP's....... these are impossible in a competive market . No one would need anything QWEST sells if we had free market (Same for the postal service ) . There'd be no dial up ISP's The Cable companies were outlawed in providing WWW and phones service for a long time , to protect Baby bells . Protecting baby bells is destroying America, forcing us to use antiquated communication methods , uncompetitive with other countries , increasing our overhead of doin business , so we lose business to other countries .... Govt subsidizes baby bells , they DONT make a profit ... |

As far as I know only one person has said this, and it's just an idle threat so far. I wouldn't worry about it. It has been estimated that 50,000 people read this group, so one threatened non-reader isn't exactly an issue. -- Dan Abel Petaluma, California, USA |
