I know there are a few readers here from the Sacramento area, so will
post a little experience from the last few days. I made a trip up to Apple Hill. While there, I bought a couple of boxes of Apples, and a number of Peaches. Also, at the High HIll Ranch, they sold little packets of mulling spices to put in the cider to make a delightful Hot Spiced Cider. What I did when I came home, was to can some of the Apples, and some of the Peaches. When I made the syrup to can the fruit in, I also included one of the packets of spices, and allowed it to brew in the syrup for a bit, before adding the fruit. They turned out really well! For those that aren't from our area, I suspect cider mulling spice packets are available everywhere. I'm just really partial to the ones available at Apple HIll's High Hill Ranch.
