Winter's here. After four days last week with temps in the 80's, we
woke this AM to cold and rainy. It never got above 40 all day.

For those watching the Broncos-Ravens game, the rain will turn to snow
before it's over.

Spaghetti with meatballs and sausage for dinner tonight. That's our
cold-weather food along with beef stew, soup, and chili.

I hate winter.

Agreed... I hate winter too. Love the Bronco's.

These sound good:

Creamsicles
6 oz. orange juice
8 oz. nonfat vanilla yogurt
A bit of sugar or sweetner
Put all ingredients into a blender. Blend well.
Freeze in popsicle molds or paper cups.

Or
"Orange Julius"
6 oz. frozen orange juice
1 cup milk and 1 cup water
1/2 c. confectioners sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
10 to 12 ice cubes
Blend well.

Here's a spooky bit for you..............

Our football (ie, Rugby League) Grandfinal was played last week.

It was between the Broncos and the Storm.

Broncos won.

I don't miss the months of Ohio winters one bit. The heat of our AZ summer
seems to be at an end and today 85 degrees seemed blessedly cool. I've
ceased to think of the things you've mentioned as cold-weather food, as I
would never get to eat them if I waited for COLD weather. :-) You've
mentioned some of my favorite things.

Move to Texas. <G>

It's been in the 90's all week but we are supposed to have a cold front
move in Wednesday night with temps in the 70's.

I look forward to winter!

"External heat and cold had little influence on Scrooge. No warmth
could warm, no wintry weather chill him. No wind that blew was
bitterer than he, no falling snow was more intent upon its purpose,
no pelting rain less open to entreaty. Foul weather didn't know
where to have him. The heaviest rain, and snow, and hail, and
sleet, could boast of the advantage over him in only one respect.
They often 'came down' handsomely, and Scrooge never did."

The dinner sounds delish! We'll be doing the meatball and sausage
soup tomorrow night when all of Clan Ranger is finally in from all
our school and sport activities.

Our lows have been in the 70's for 2 weeks.

Heh! Oh yeah...
Used to live up above Denver in the Evergreen area.

Snow on the ground, cold as hell by the end of October.

No trick or treating without down jackets and snow boots. <G>

Part of the reason we moved South.

I do miss those summer thundershowers tho'. :-(
And no need for central air.......

I hate football! That's the reason I buy DVD's - I don't have cable TV so I
have to either have a good book to read or a movie to watch. But for
cooking, I love winter! Time to make all sorts of stews. Hmmm, I
absolutely must rush to the store to buy oxtails

Have you considered NetFlix for your DVD's? You could save a lot of money
and their turnaround time is very good. I only buy DVD's of things that I
know I will want to watch many times.

A lot depends on the Altitude...
Evergreen is higher than Denver and we lived up on Shadow Mountain,
roughly 6,000 ft.

Winters lasted thru April. and there were occasional frosts in early May.

I remember snow in May in Denver. Didn't last long but it did snow.

We've lived here since 1984 and have had a blizzard as early as Sept.
15, (1995 (2-3 feet of snow which produced horrible tree damage since
none of the leaves had fallen) and as late as June 2 (don't remember the
year.)

OTOH, we have had Christmas days in the 70's, shirtsleeve weather.

This has been the first year in a long time when the golden aspen color
in the mts. has lasted more than a few days before rain or snow stripped
all the leaves.

You can't take Mother Nature for granted here.

I have Comcast digital cable and I really enjoy the movies on demand
feature...many of them are free, plus there are channels such as "The
Cutting Edge" which feature the odd and unusual...

I like Netflix, too. But, you might want to call your cable company once or
twice a year, or pay attention to their ads. The idiots are slowly beginning
to understand that some people might want to buy a few channels instead of
eleven billion. Maybe before we all die of old age, this will be possible.

Not Cox. You either take whats offered or nothing. I understand why they
don't want to do a la carte, in essence your cable rates would RISE, not
fall.

Here (Time Warner), I pay $7.22 for basic cable: 5 locals plus 2 or 3
bizarre others that they throw in. The next step is $58.00 per month, which
gets me the "Senior Citizen Woodworking " channel and others I have no
interest in. I want food network, comedy central and HBO. If I can have that
for $20-ish, I'm in.

I'm paying closed to $50 a month for the expanded basic package. When
they do finally cut to HDTV I'm just going to drop the video side of it.
Most everything one wants can be found on the web.
