Lambs Liver lightly fried in butter and served with fried onions, bacon and a suitable gravy is wonderful. Should be accompanied with good mashed potato and green vegetables of your choice. When I was younger and needed to vomit for whatever reason (drank too much, or was sick and knew it was inevitable) all I ever had to do was picture undercooked eggs in my mind, and that did the trick! I'm getting the urge just writing this.... -L. |

My older and brother would sit there for 27 minutes, then eat it in a hurry. They are 5 and 7 years older than me, and I just couldn't understand why they would eat something nasty after it was cold and nastier. I simply got up and went to bed. After a few times, my parents realized I would not eat what I don't like. And I don't care about the punishment. It wasn't until later that I was able to articulate that it is mostly texture that I do not like. Though I do gag at the smell of cream of wheat or steamed rice. If only my brother and sister had figured it out sooner, they wouldn't have had to eat so much of the nasty stuff. I do have a few bad stories. When I was in high school, I went to dinner at a friend's house. The mother served a meal with cabbage, steamed rice, and ground beef. Pure nasty. I told you the smell of rice makes me gag. I was taught to be polite, so I did my best to eat some of it, and after getting about half of it down, I said that I was really full. As she drove me home, I prayed for her to drive faster. When I got home, I walked into the house and then RAN to the bathroom just in time to puke. After that, anytime that friend asked me to dinner or overnight, I had my mom ground me for a messy room. Sometime back, my mom was out of spaghetti seasoning and decided to do something else. I have no idea what it was, but it tasted mostly like plain tomato paste. I was warned on the way into the kitchen, so I took a small serving, thanked my mom, and went back to my room which is in the basement. I have a microwave and fridge in my room, so no big deal for me. I did feel bad for my dad who had to eat it. I tried to give mine to the dog, but even the dog turned it down. |

Eeeek, :-@ Also fish, we had steam fish stomach (of a large fish) once, had a gag reflex when I touched the slimy feel of it. I didn't try that dish afterwards. But I am OK with shashimi and steam fish. |

I rent the basement of my parent's house. I have my own fridge, freezer, microwave, etc. I also cook in the kitchen too. Sometimes people assume that because I live in the same house, that I eat their food all the time. I explain that I do occasionally eat their food if they make something I like when I am home, and I haven't already eaten. But I always plan as if there is nothing for me. I joke that they can make anything they want, the worst thing in the world, except liver, and there will never be a complaint from me. Liver is an exception because it stinks up the house. Fortunately, my mom hasn't made that in years. Another thing I thought of it is microwaved ice cream. A few years back, my dad decided it is easier to scoop if you put it in the microwave. So, one day, as a dessert, he served pie and ice cream. We were sitting in the living room, and discovered that the ice cream was stringy. It was so nasty that I have to try hard to not gag when i think about it. He still insists on doing it, and gets offended when nobody accepts ice cream from him. He even marked the containers as not microwaved, but he did it at least once to a marked box. If you want to creep somebody out out in our house, just mention Dad's ice cream. |

Once, though, she tried a recipe out of a women's magazine for "corn pudding". Foulest thing ever. Like congealed --- well, congealed something. So gross. My mother made a nasty concoction that was called "Chinese casserole" when I was a kid back in the 1970's. It had bamboo shoots and water chestnuts in a slimy gravy along with browned ground beef. To this day I cannot even look at a can of bamboo shoots or water chestnuts. My folks had a rather large garden and grew a wide variety of vegetables which I hated at the time but would absolutely love now that I am an adult (and with the produce prices what they are nowadays yikes!). Beets and green beans were especially hated by me. I ate dinner at the home of an elderly aunt. The meal was okay until I noticed that the dinner rolls were mouldy. Once I poured a bowl of Crispix cereal (after having opened the new box), only to have a large black beetle come tumbling out into the bowl. Actually, now that I think about it, food was not really something I enjoyed until I was in my 30's. I guess that explains why I weighed 105 lbs until about five years ago, lol.... |

In time, Mom became a wonderful cook, but some of her early efforts, like this one, were just nasty... -- "Little Malice" is Jani in WA ~ mom, Trollop, novice cook ~ |

I had a stepmother -- it was my unfaithful father's fifth marriage, or
something ridiculous like that -- whose "cooking" was an absolute nightmare. She couldn't eat seafood (she claimed it gave her an allergic reaction), and her favorite food was McDonald's effin' hamburgers -- so I never had high hopes any time she "cooked," in fact I dreaded such occasions. Let's see, she would make "pesto potatoes" which were raw in the middle. She would make "curry" which consisted of an incorent mishmash of spices thrown into a frying pan. She made vegetable "dishes" which never had any seasoning and were invariably undercooked. It was all a nightmare. Worse yet, my father, who was despite his numerous flaws once a great cook, began to dumb his cooking down to accomodate my stepmother. He would omit spices and seafoods from dishes such as "paella" and "bouillabaise." These are terrible memories -- and the culinary aspects of them are the worst! |
