Food Network had a show---I think it was "Ham on the Road"---in which
the host held a grilled-cheese-jam lottery. Three bingo cages, each with ping-pong balls on which were written a type of bread, a type of cheese, and a type of jam. Participants pulled one of each from the cages, host made a sandwich, buttered both sides, grilled. Never tried jam on a grilled-cheese before but I think I might be hooked after only two tries. Sharp cheddar plus black raspberry on whole-wheat, and mozzarella plus strawberry on white. The sweet jam nicely complements the rich and slightly-salty cheese. [Up to this point, I'd always thought that the real purpose of a grilled cheese was to soak up tomato soup....] Anyone have favorites in this category? I was thinking of munster and pineapple on sourdough. Best -- Terry |
