Kraft claims they actually use some milk to make theirs. Milk is, in fact,
listed in the ingredients. Just about everyone else doesn't bother,
the stuff being made primarily from vetetable oil. The latter is
usually labeled "cheese food".

American Cheese is a pasteurized processed cheese. The labeling it as
such is a legal thing here in the U.S. - designed to make it sound
more palatable.

It was much better to label products as "American Cheese" than to put
processed cheese slices on the package.. If you are anywhere but the
U.S. you will not find "American Cheese" they will instead be just
processed cheese.


REAL American Cheese is a soft white/yellow Cheddar.

The government cheese we had wasn't. It was a soft-ish cheddar like
real American, not at all like Velveeta.

lol, just messin w/ya, in high school, a friend used to get some
it was good cheese. everybody knows govt cheese is tasty
i wish i knew where to get some
i think now! eligibles get a voucher for some cheese of their choice
maybe not choice cheese but cheese of their choosing
i mean, they can be choosy, but they still get the cheese
