I decided to try some of the online grocery coupons I'd been hearing about.
A Google search produced several coupon websites. Turns out for each site I had to "sign up"--no way to simply print out some coupons. So I decided to sign up. The sign up process went on and on, so eventually I just gave up. Starting right away I was innundated with spam emails. Apparently I agreed (without knowing) that my email address could be distributed to every online marketer on the planet. Now I receive/delete about 30 to 50 solicitations each day. I always go through the "unsubscribe" process before deleting, but its like swatting mosquitos--there's always more. Anybody else had this problem? Any elegant way to deal with it? Paul Barrett |

A few years ago some spambot swept rfc (back in the day when I used my real address instead of a "usenet" one) I got so many spam emails in one day that they filled my box. I was deleting the entire box 2 and 3 times a day. Now I know I should have just let them bounce, but I was new and stupid. Next time, find to a web site that generates a throw away address for you or create an alternate email address as a spam catcher. I'm sure your ISP will allow you to create more than one email account. Your throw away account can be legitimate, but not one you use for your everyday email. A few years ago <when I was getting 200 - 400 spam emails a day>, I created another email account and told everyone in my address book to use that one so I could ignore the one that was being spammed. -- See return address to reply by email |
