Oops..I meant to responds to the statement
"My sister in law eats it on kernel at a time. Seriously. Takes her, like, 2 hours to eat a single ear. It's devastatingly frustrating to watch ;-) " I knew there must be something they (my twin and who ever she learned from) are getting soemthing out of eating like this but I just couldn't figured out what. |

I beg to differ. I lived in the US for 12 months. I visited lots of supermarkets and delis. I threw dinner parties and BBQs. And *every* frikken Yank that ever came to them was ****ing amazed and stunned that *I* sourced the food specifically, I prepared the food, and I cooked the food. Rather than just get something out of a can, a packet, or a freezer. Yes, there are probably people in the US that aren't like that (and some may even inhabit rec.food), but you rely too much on crap products, and crap food. Look at some of the ingredents to some of your so called 'recipes', for Gods sake!! "Cool whip" et al. Look at your bread. I brought something that I thought was healthy because it looked like wholemeal bread. Right now would be the time as it's in season, easy to find as it's being used for fall/harvest/Thanksgiving decorating. It grows just fine from the "decorator" ears you can get from the grocery store. The meal does have a distinctive sweet flavor for making chips, cornbread, etc. I get the blue corn meal from the health food store sometimes to use for coating fish before frying. I rarely use tinned or packeted items, and I think the vast majority of folks on this list don't either. It is a cooking list after all! I don't use Velveeta often, but it is the most efficient for making queso dips as it melts smoother than, say, cheddar or jack. Regular cheese tends to separate and curdle when melted to make dips.
