Funny how that happens, I can only wonder. You'd think success is a packed restaurant, but that's not always the case. >At a loss, we went a bit down the road to a chain restaurant > called Chiles. The food was pretty blah. I can't imagine how we wound up in one some years ago. Blah is a good word. The sheer blandness of the place, food, service just seemed to suck the energy out of the air. Creepy. nancy |

There wasn't anything on the menu that we couldn't make better at home, or don't make at home regularly, so nothing appealed to me. I ordered steamed broccoli. Seriously. Nothing else called out to me. The waiter was "kind" enough to add cheddar cheese to the broccoli for free. Whoopie!!!!!!! Hubby got nachos and declared them.........just nachos. Nothing spectacular. Between the two of us, I think I got the better meal. Oh well. kili -- http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/kilikini |

People usually order steamed vegetables when they are avoiding calories. > Whoopie!!!!!!! Hubby got nachos and declared them.........just nachos. > Nothing spectacular. I guess I was hoping it would be like a place I liked that closed, Garcias. Two strikes. nancy |

We went there 2-3 times a month for either weekend brunch or dinner, and then suddenly they were gone. We were able to find out from someone who had worked there that it turned out the owner had been cheating on his taxes for 2-3 years, and that this wasn't the first restaurant where he had done this. It was a very popular place, but I guess he couldn't be satisfied with normal success. What a shame. David |

Tax problem of some sort. A real shame. I think it might have been a property tax issue, as in the owner of the building didn't bother paying them. Regardless, taxes, that could definitely explain the sudden disappearance of a successful business. Of all things, I *really* miss their chopped salad. nancy |

It's always a shock when a popular restaurant suddenly closes. Around here - the usual story is their rent spiked and they couldn't afford to stay in business. -- See return address to reply by email |
