You know something comes around every year (whatever
happened to that pizza thing?, a pan that spun around under
a heating element?).

I saw this somewhere, and had to look it up online. For those
on your list who have everything:

http://www.hammacher.com/publish/50929.asp

Yup, a hot dog toaster.

It should be much cheaper. There's no way anyone's gonna be able to clean
the grease out of it. It'll be thrown away, or it'll start a fire and take
out the kitchen.

A year or so ago wasn't it that silly ass chocolate fountain thing?
I've seen that stupid hotdog toaster cheaper in other catalogs.
Scary thing is that someone out there will really buy it.

You know, I thought about that and figured, it must have
a drip tray. And a crumb tray. A drip crumb tray. Heh,
who knows. At any rate, it struck me as funny. A hot dog
toaster.

That reminds me of the line from Dr. Seuss's "The Lorax" that goes
something like

"I laughed a the Lorax, You poor, stupid guy...
you never can TELL what some people will buy."

He was talking about "thneeds" (A thneed's a fine something that ALL
poeple need." Just like a shiny hot dog toaster.) Ugh.

Not as bad as one might think. My neighbor bought one of those and cooked
a brisket in it. Rather tasty and very tender.

Interesting device. If I do frozen pizza I preheat the oven to 450F for
ten minutes. Then it's 10 or so minutes in the oven for the pizza.
Really doesn't take long.

But then I think about how many CCF's or therms of gas I'm using and it
must cost me at least a couple dollars of natural gas to bake it.

The listed unit is 1,273 watts or 10.6A so it can be used most places.
Most of all even if you ran it for an hour, with electricity as high as
it is here (.14 per kWh when you calc in distro costs, stranded costs,
etc.) you only use about 20 cents worth of electricty.

Far more efficient.

That's right. At the time I thought perhaps it was good for
dorm rooms where they don't have an oven, and they have a
lot of pizza.

I apologize if I offended you. I didn't mean to.

Goofy and FUN. Carol has one, and whenever she brings it out at a
party, people flock around it. Flowing chocolate is some people's idea
of a dream come true.

I'd like to watch it work, out of curiousity but wouldn't own one.

I used to roast marshmallows over a candle in my dorm room. Put the
marshmallow on a fork and hold it over the flame. It works, it just takes a
little longer than over a "regular" fire.

I see those things and just gag. I think of all the fingers holding food
touching the chocolate as it rolls by and wonder about contamination. I
think of the space they take up and limited use not to mention how much
chocolate is wasted cleaning it up. I just think they look tacky. <shrug>

I have a fondue pot. If I ever feel so inclined to have liquid chocolate
(which I never do - I'm not a chocolate lover) I'll prepare it that way.

I saw one of those advertised somewhere recently and
the first thing I thought of was, "How the hell do you
clean it?" Bread just leaves crumbs which eventually
carbonize and you can leave them in there forever but
hotdogs? They've gotta ooze juices that would drip down
and really make a mess. What are these people thinking.

Why buy one of these when you can get hot dogs in buns already cooked?
LOL.

I don't see any mention of how to clean the hot dog juice out of the
toaster, though - a "crumb tray" wouldn't quite do it for me.
