Default Andy's Lost and found.

Got up this morning and my diamond ring was missing! It's too large
nowadays and I know it needs resizing.

I turned the bed upsidedown (maybe it fell off in my sleep). Nothing.

OK, I was cleaning gutters yesterday but I wore work gloves so I wouldn't
have taken it off. OH, maybe when I took off the glove it stayed in the
finger. Nope, not there.

When do I take my ring off??? Hardly ever (except for cleaning it)!!!

What's left? OK, yesterday I took the trash out. What are the chances it
slipped into the trash. Well, THAT'S never happened but, OK, I pulled the
15 gallon trashbag back into the house and with an empty trash bag side
by side, with gloves on I went piece by piece through the kitchen trash.
Grundge and slime and stink! I was 3/4 of the way through the transfer
when there it was shining up at me!!!

I've worn it since 1989.

WHAT A RELIEF!

All the best,

Andy

I'm so happy for you that you found your ring. I know if I lose
something, the garbage goes *nowhere* ... stuff gets thrown out
a lot in my house. Very annoying. How lucky you thought to
check there.

nancy,

Yesterday was trash day but the wather was so nasty, I decided to leave
it in the shed until Monday.

That's 2x LUCKY!!!

Maybe I should put $1.00 on the lotto tonight. (grin)

possibly sending a wrong message!??

Andy,

If you don't have the time or $$$ to get it re-sized, just order a ring
guard from Fire Mountain Gems. That will solve your problem quickly,
easily and with minimum expense:

http://www.firemountaingems.com/sear...w=ring%20guard

I've done business with FMG for years. They are fast and reliable, and
one of the few companies that does ordering 24/7. They also do checks by
phone so you don't have to use a credit card.

I'm glad you found your ring!

Om,

What a great solution!!! That way if I ever get fat fingers back, I can
just remove the ring guard. I'll give it a go!

Thanks for sharing the magic,

I think I'd put it in my jewelry box until it was the right size since
you knew of so many places you could have lost it.

Fantastic that you found it.

Couldn't hurt. Worst case it's just a $1 contribution to some

THANK GOD!

I would be very upset if I lost mine. It was my engagement ring and it
turnedinto my wedding ring during our ceremony. It has so much meaning
for me - well beyond the monetary value.

-L.,

I took my wife's two best friends/diamond experts to the L.A. Diamond
Mart in downtown Los Angeles to buy my wife an engagement ring. I didn't
know diamonds. I chose a ring and diamond. Janice and Anne were "just
browsing" and they called me over. They were looking at men's diamond
rings. "OH, Andy, try that one on!" "HUH?" "Andy, just try it on!" "Oh
well, OK." The jeweler had it out and on my finger in seconds. Janice and
Anne ooh'd and ahh'd beaming. "How much, they asked." The jeweler said
$900. 1 carat, 7-diamonds, 14 carat gold nugget." OH, Andy, you simply
MUST get this ring. It's worth $2,000!"

With Janice and Anne present, later, I proposed to my wife and she said
yes. Then I showed her the ring Janice and Anne forced ME to buy. She
laughed and said "you took the 'diamond sluts' to a diamond market???"
Laughter, hugs and tears.

Most men find it ostentatious, being such a large brilliant ring, but
I've had countless compliments from women.

If it weren't for Janice and Anne I would never have thought to buy a
diamond ring for myself. The cunning wenches!!!

I bought The Hub three stud earrings to wear in his left ear...a ruby,
a diamond and a sapphire. He gets a lot of comments on them from both
men and women.

The Hub works in construction and he is as non-stereotypical as one
can be in the trades, where guys being uber-butch and blustery are
seen more than once in awhile. The earrings are strictly for the
beauty of the stones, but anyone ever tries to give him any guff about
the earrings on site, he pulls the faux patriotic " red, white and
blue" stuff and they back down real fast.

Then we laugh about it at home that night.

Sounds similar to my husband's ring - 1 ct TW, 5 diamonds, in a really
cool channel setting - the top of the ring is flat (rectangular) and
the diamonds sit in a row with essentially a small band of gold on
either side. It's gorgeous, and people stop him in public to comment
on it. It's phat and fat but he's a big guy (6'1", 225) so can pull it
off. I bought it for him before he officially proposed, and he never
knew about it. Two weeks later he bought my ring. I told him two
weeks before the wedding that he had a ring, and I showed him - he was
stunned but very pleased.

IMO (obviously), some of the nicest rings for men have diamonds in
them.

<snip your search>

For our twenty-fifth anniversary, I bought my wife a pair of diamond
studs. They were a half carat apiece. I've never seen her happier.
She wore them with pride for seven or eight years, and one day she
tearfully told me she had lost one of them.
Since she apparently touches them once a day, she was certain she had
lost the stud very recently. We looked in all the usual places. She
checked at work. She checked in the car. She had been to a couple of
places in the last few days and checked with them. Nothing.
She was broken hearted, and my platitudes did not comfort her.
On the third day, we got a phone call. Her hairdresser had found the
stud. What a stroke of luck! I had the threads on her studs changed, and
she still uses the same hairdresser. She will till the hairdresser
retires or dies.

Speaking of branding, there's a street punk walking around in Amsterdam
with a seven diamond scar in his forehead for attempting to pick-pocket
me.
