Default HELP - Need Dried Bell Pepper Flakes

I live in Seattle and am throwing a dinner party tomorrow night. I need to
find dried bell pepper flakes. I have tried a number of grocery stores and
some specialty shops. I don't have time to order from the web.

Does anyone know who carries them?

It is for lasagna recipe that has been in the family for years. I never
had a problem finding them before. Now the day before a big dinner party in
which friends are coming over to try this legendary lasagna recipe, I can't
find any green bell pepper flakes. Though I am not oppose to changing the
recipe, I was hoping to not have it be while everyone else will be trying it
out.

Push comes to shove, you can make them in the time you have.
Wash, dry and dice the peppers to about twice the size you
want to end up with. Lay them out in a single layer on a
lightly sprayed baking sheet and turn your oven on to about
145F or a tad more. Shake the pan every hour or so for a few
hours. Dried pepper flakes.

Make them.

To dry bell peppers, remove the seeds and stem, cut into strips and place them
into a 200 degree oven overnight.

Penzey's:

http://www.penzeys.com/cgi-bin/penze...llpeppers.html

They have next-day shipping. If you hurry and give them a phone call
before 10am, you may get them tomorrow morning. Never hurts to try.
At the very least you'll have them for the next time.

Winco Foods might -- I read that via Google though, so I'm
not 100% sure. There's one in Kent. I accidentally drove past
it yesterday (don't ask). You could give them a call...

There's no reason whatsoever to use dehy bell pepper in lasagna as it
will rehydrate anyway (but won't achieve full flavor due to the acid in
tomato sauce - should be rehydrated in plain cold water prior to use),
use fresh. Dehy bell pepper is very handy to have in the larder (for
when you only need a small amount, or the one you thought you had has
rotted) but in most instances is not better than fresh... powdered dehy
bell pepper does make a nice garnish on omelets.

Dried is good when you don't have fresh. Otherwise use fresh.
According to the Penzeys link elsewhere in this thread, 2 tablespoons of
dried rehydrates to 1/4 cup.

I buy mine at my food co-op.
Or Penzeys.
