I know the feeling. Miss the first one, the second is now 10.

I did not know that your 'net handle was a dog breed. I've googled them
and they look interesting.

Do you have pictures?

It does in my book. ;-)
I've substituted V-8 juice for an actual meal.

<lol>

Hash browns should be served with runny egg yolks.....

I use so little ketchup, I just keep a few packets around I bring home
from the break room at work. It's a necessary ingredient in Deviled eggs.

I cannot eat potatoes any more. <sigh> I only get away with eating
tomatoes if I take zantac with them. I love tomatoes too much to give
them up, but I can live without spuds.

We have been eating more yams instead, and rice.

fred,

I would but I don't know your taste in music.

OB Food:
"Bringing Home the Bacon", Procol Harum
Album: "Grand Hotel" 1971

Both albums are excellent from side to side (thinking in vinyl), imho.

Visit the ITunes store and sample the albums/tracks.

My SIL had a Hungarian dog... it was huge, black and had dreadlocks.
Is this the same breed or a different one?

I find that the thick sliced bacon just gets too hard no matter
how I cook it. My favorite bacon is the kind that comes in a
little 6-oz box--is is Oscar Meyer?--that you microwave. It is
very thin, just enough of the bacon taste with a couple of eggs.
And very little kitchen mess.

If I am cooking for several people or using a mess of bacon
in something like Hoppin' John, I buy regular bacon and
put the slab on a broiler pan in the oven and broil it on high,
checking it often and moving it around. Watched carefully,
it crisps up nicely and once it is well drained, it is very good.

That said, these days I only use meats like this as flavorings
in vegetable dishes like green beans, collards or bean soup.
It's not the fat that bothers me as much as the nitrites. A
healthier (admittedly fatty but no weird chemicals) alternative
is fresh sausage, hot Italian is my fav. I just want little bits
but my husband will eat them on a sandwich with mustard!

It came with the house. No manual in sight. I could probably find one
on the web, but why? Who cares about wattage. Heat and cook a few
things and you'll find out how the unit works.

Not exactly rocket surgery.

Make your own sausage... A lot of it has nitrites too. :-(

It's not that hard.

And it's FUN!

Apparently. I keep forgetting the name of the breed, but Komodor
sounds familiar. It wasn't a Puli, because it was a large dog.

I'll write and ask her. She's in Hungary right now, so I don't know
when she'll be able to get back to me. I'd like a picture too, so I
can post it for you - but I'm sure she won't have one on her to
attach.

Not the stuff I get at my local groceries, I have checked!
It's just Harris Teeter brand or Kroger brand. Nothing weird
in them.

I was a vet tech at a high-volume feline specialty hospital. I have
seen a lot of tapes! Actually sesame seeds look like the tape segments
that are shed from the anus, once they dry, if you really want to know.
And yes, sesame seeds to that to me every time!

To me, they look more like white rice. ;-)
They are not teardrop shaped like sesame seeds are.

Cooked rice looks like maggots.

Looks yummy to me! It took me a while to get it as the first
link didn't work so I googled "Chicken Fried Bacon" and got the

I believe the term "country gravy" refers to milk gravy -- the
kind one makes with fried chicken, chicken fried steak, or as
you said, with sausage. I love the stuff, but too many calories.

I couldn't get the original to work either, so I went to U-Tube;
thanks for suggesting it. It's something I would be willing to
try if I were eating at Sodolak's (or somewhere similar), but I
don't think I'd make it myself. I just think it would be too
much of a good thing -- I like bacon, I like "chicken fried"
batter, and I like milk gravy, but all together? Reminds me of
the deep fried Oreo thing. But hey, that's just my opinion. Do
tell how it turns out, Kate. And if I did make it, I'd probably
use thick sliced bacon...

The Kuvasz has a white, medium length, straight or
wavy, coat. It is a sheep guard dog that looks similar
to a Great Pyrenees and is thought to be one of
the progenitors of that breed. The puli
is the smaller black with the corded coat and is a
sheep herding dog. The Komondor is the larger white
with the corded coat and is a sheep guard dog.

I stand corrected on my SIL's dog. She just replied to my email. It
was a *white* Komondor. Don't know how I ever got the idea it was
black.

Yes, that's what the 2 recipes I found suggested. I would anyway,
since I always buy thick-sliced bacon when possible. I like mine
soft and the thin stuff gets too crisp too fast. Besides which,
more is always better. ;-)

I don't know if anyone saw this news article about it.
It cracked me up. Love the quote from the nutritionist.

I like this part of the article:

"But what I really like about Sodolak's concoction is that it makes the
food police crazy.
"I've never heard of anything worse," said Jayne Hurley, senior
nutritionist at the Center for Science in the Public Interest in
Washington D.C"

Her name is rather appropriate don't you think? <lol>

I do like the fact that now that I've learned to cook, I can make
"healthy" food delicious. I cook as much for nutrition as flavor (at
least most of the time, but not always!) and have discovered that
nutrition and delicious foods are actually compatible...

But, I don't like _anyone_ telling me what I can and cannot eat. After
all, it's _my_ funeral right? <G>

My favorite line is this one:
"They've taken fat, they've doubled-coated it in fat, they've fried it
in more fat, and then served it with a side order of fat."
So what's her problem?

And later this:
There would be one way to improve it, however. "The only thing they're
missing is a couple of fried eggs under the whole thing," said Hurley,
the nutritionist.

Yup.

<smiles>

From my personal studies into low carb nutrition, fat is not the enemy...
Starch and sugar are. And if I control those two items, my Cholesterol
stays lower and my Triglycerides stay below 100.

Fat being the enemy is a myth.

I used to run blood tests monthly when I first started playing with
diet. Now I run them once ever 2 to 3 months, but mainly because we're
still trying to stabilized my damned thyroid meds!

But that's a genetic issue, not dietary.

OK, I finally had a chance to watch the video; Although I think the
steaks are a little on the small side, this place sounds like heaven on
earth...

Might be time for that Texas road trip...
