I met one of my favourite celebrity cooks last night, Anna Olson
of Sugar. My wife and I went out to a reading of Charles Dickens'
A Christmas Carol because a friend of ours was one of the
readers. It was a last minute thing. We had a quick dinner and
scooted down to see it. What a delightful surprise to see that
the first reader on the list was Anna Olson.

Anyone who gets her show on Food TV Canada, probably wonders how
a woman who bakes such sweet, rich goodies can maintain such a
comfortable, curvy figure. Let me tell you that it must be true
about the camera adding pounds. She is much slimmer and much
better looking in real life. She had brought some desserts for
the audience. Unfortunately, while I was up at the front of the
hall talking with Anna the rest of the audience had gone out to
the foyer and were wolfing down her goodies.

It was the perfect opportunity for me to ask her a question about
something. I needed to know how much sugar she added in her Lemon
Curd. My mother had been watching her show the other day and was
writing down the recipe when someone came to the door, so she
ended up with all the ingredients but the sugar.

I had had Anna's desserts in the past. Before she had her show
and opened her own shop she had been the pasty chef at a
restaurant where we occasionally ate. The desserts were always
incredible. When I first heard about her show and that she had
been the pastry chef there I knew the show would be worth
watching.



I may not have started my Christmas shopping yet, but I have
started off the Christmas season with a nice evening of talented
readers performing Christmas classic and meeting on of my
favourite cooking show hostesses.
