Practically no 'livestock' in the area. Just a lot of formerly
undeveloped land and forest that's gradually being swallowed up by
housing developments and shopping centers. Deer, with nowhere to go
and not many natural predators, keep eating the azaleas. They are
evidently a growing problem in many areas. I wish I'd saved the
article that summarized possible solutions. Brith control is chancy
and difficult to administer. Capture and relocation is often fatally
traumatic, as well as being fabulously expensive. Hard to tell people
to stop requiring new houses and facilities.

Alas, the problem of geese on Langley AFB runways was treated in a
similar manner, and the animal rights people raised a considerable
stink. The confrontations beween wildlife and people is difficult in
so many ways.

Humans, too, have to deal with an overwrought bureaucracy. I'd *love*
to keep a few chickens, or even better, some goats for weed-control
and lovely, lovely cheese. However, the Codes & Compliance sector is
pretty strict. I once had a policeman at my door about a "derelict"
car in my driveway. That is, an unfashionable but fully functioning,
registered, licensed, insured, and inspected elderly VW. Evidently,
somone called this in as an "eyesore." Who knows what they'd do about
a rooster!
