Who is your most annoying Food Network Personality and why?
I would have to go with Sandra Lee's Semi Homemade. I wanted to give her a chance but how many times can I watch her make some sort of refrigerated canned biscuits circle thing that she then coats with a thick layer of her uninspiring powdered sugar and water mixture? And don't even get me started on the tablescapes! What has happened to this channel and why are there only like five shows now? |

> Who is your most annoying Food Network Personality and why? For me it's Mario Batali, simply because he talks too much about places and cultural tastes and differences and styles and cooking in Italy in an effort to educate his viewers but two seconds after he's finished talking I've forgotten the name of the town, or region or whatever since he goes through it so fast. It's the only show I don't even like to hear in the background. But that's just me! Andy |

It might be Bobby Flay for me. I think he's a skilled chef but there's
something about his personality - arrogance maybe - that rubs me the wrong way. Runner-up would be Sandra Lee or Michael Chiavello (sp?). For me it is Rachael Ray, I like the way she cooks, but she is too
perky for me. Second place would be Sandra Lee for cooking by assembly. I think that some of her quick cooking methods really leave a lot to be desired. StephanieM |

For me it's a Rachel Ray-Bobby Flay tie.
She flaps around like a chicken with it's head cut off and he is just plain annoying, starting with the voice. Sandra Lee is too much of a joke to bother discussing. Oh, wait....haven't we done this before, at least 10 times? |

She's as boring as batshit. http://www.deliaonline.com/ Then there'd be Jacques Reymond from 'Secret Recipies'. http://www.abc.net.au/secretrecipes/host.htm He talks too damn fast in a very thick French accent, and keeps interrupting his guests and sticking his nose and fingers in their food. I'd slap him down if he did that in my kitchen. -- Peter Lucas Brisbane Australia 'Enjoy today, it was paid for by a veteran' http://www.beccycole.com/albums/vide...ter_girl.shtml |

It might be more productive to ask whether there are cooking shows on PBS or elsewhere away from the Food Network that people like or find instructive. I like Daisy Cooks on PBS. -aem |

Is Martin now on Food Network? Yeah, he can be annoying with his constant repitition and other quirky mannerisms, but I've learned about Chinese cooking from him. Isn't that what it's all about? nb |

I hate the shows where people walk around some town and ga-ga over the food like drooling idiots. None of the hosts are interesting enough and watching other people eat sure isn't. Sandra Lee's cooking bothers me more than her personality. The glop she makes is horrific, and sometimes more work than scratch cooking. Rachel Ray is unnaturally perky. I can watch her, but I have to turn the sound off and use close-captioning. > > What has happened to this channel and why are there only like five > shows now? It's not about cooking anymore. It's a food entertainment channel. The people who run it don't think that how-to shows where people demonstrate recipes is interesting enough for modern viewers. So we get crap like "Unwrapped" instead. I don't mind a joke now and then, but I'd far rather have the cooking method demonstrated and talked about in a straightforward, pleasant way. I miss Julia Child something awful. I always learned something from her, and never found her TV persona annoying. I don't have cable so I cannot make a fair assessment of cable TV cooks. But I can't see the point of watching a cooking show in which the cook assembles prepackaged preservative filled pre-made crap into semi-packaged crap on camera. If I watch a cooking show, it's because I'm interested in COOKING, that is, making real food out of fresh ingredients. |

I consider Bobby Flay the most annoying Food Network personality. He
mispronounces (mis-pwonounces?) many of his words; he's ungrammatical; his food is Chili's-caliber; and he does really weird things. For example, once while teaching FN viewers how to make hamburgers, he thrust the meat patties towards the camera and said, "You know you wanna eat that." I did NOT have any such wish, and I thought that antic of Flay's verged on being disgusting. |

I've bashed her a lot, especially the $40/Day show, but I was surprised at how much I liked her when she assisted Batali on ICA. Also, when that stuff about her husband's freakish predilections came out, I -- again to my surprise -- felt sorry for her. So don't toss her in w/ Flay either. Flay deserves to flayed alive -- and alone. |
