It's ok as long as you pay attention to this part:

"Because freezing keeps food safe indefinitely, recommended storage
times are for quality only."

I've Foodsaver vac-bagged BBQ brisket and use it more than a year later
with no perceptible loss of quality. Certainly the vac-bagging help by
preventing freezer burn.

I haven't gone through the whole list but I disagree with the refrigerated
bread "promotes staling" claim.

I always keep a fresh loaf of bread in the fridge and it never goes stale.
The added benefit is breads don't mold as fast.

I do freeze loaves until the fridge loaf is almost gone then add another.

It seems to be pretty conservative on several items. I know I've used
canned biscuits and rolls a good two months after the sell by date.

Just the other day, I thawed out some store-packed chorizo that I'd put
through my Tilia in November. Of 2003.

It was a tad chewy, but otherwise not all that different from fresh.

Total bullshit. Maybe they are talking about the freezer compartment of a
frost free refrigerator, and the food isn't wrapped very well. A lot of
the stuff listed there will last at least 5 times as long as they say with
little loss of quality -- when wrapped tightly in impermeable freezer wrap
and stored in a standalone freezer.

Best regards,
Bob

I am mostly concerned with fridge storage times.

Might depend on the fridge and/or baker. My experience was that
keeping bread in the fridge didn't make it last any longer at all,
though I'd hesitate to assert it didn't last *as* long as on the
shelf. Now always bung it straight into the freezer and it stays
fresh for weeks -- also a lot easier to butter when it's still hard
frozen. ;-)

Cheers, Phred.

I have never had anything in a Tilia bag go "bad" unless I managed to
pierce the seal through rough rummaging, turning it into just another
plastic wrap.

That chorizo is the record so far. 3 years and 1 month, give or take a
week. And I know I still have a few things from before then lurking in
the bowels of my chest freezer.

There's no way the machine and bags aren't paying for themselves in
saved lossage and reduced store visits and bulk discount.
