.. . . I could invite the whole world to brunch at her home on December 6
or 7. I had so much fun last November that I'm coming back. The Bloody Marys were really, really, really falling down good. Go, Marcel! Talk to Margaret about the particulars. It's her party. -- -Barb, whose reply address is now munged due to Swen. You can figure it out. Saw The Little Muffin recently. She didn't know I was coming to visit. She saw my can of TaB on the counter before she saw me. She looked at the can and said, "Baba?" |

Hi, Christine!
I hope you find yourself out here for Margaret's brunch; it'd be really swell to meet you. New Haven, eh? I think you'll like it as there are a lot of great restaurants there. Yale has a major influence on the place. I don't know if you're familiar with NH, but it's basically a fairly large east coast city, with the ups and downs that has to offer. My former bride lives there and loves it. Along with great eateries, there's a vibrant art community as well. It's a cool place, a bit funky. Another possibility is in NJ, in Livingston, NJ. Whatever happens, if I end up on that coast, I will definitely be there! I am dying to meet all you "right" coasters, and of course, Barb! If I make it over to that coast, I am gonna need someone to be my tour guide for food places. Christine |

Christine,
let me know via email (add 203 before the @) if you do take the new haven assignment. I'm about 30 minutes from there. You wouldn't be "alone" in a strange state!!!! :-) Sheryl "Jack Schidt®" > wrote in message om>... > Hi, Christine! > > I hope you find yourself out here for Margaret's brunch; it'd be really > swell to meet you. > > New Haven, eh? One is St Barnabas in Livingston NJ, although it seems if I take that one, I would be living in Florham Park...or some place nearby. I think that is pretty close to the City, right? And if I get that close to the City, I will be over that way pretty often, as I want to explore as many delights as I can of that region. Any other food plans for that weekend? I will make sure I get the entire weekend off.... Christine |

As for other food plans for that week end, two months ahead, nothing has been planned. Last time Barbara was here, we went to Zabar's and places like that, but nothing that was scheduled that far in advance. Only the brunch date was set for certain. Otherwise, we did everything on the spur of the moment. The only other planned thing was the N.Y. Chocolate Show, but that will be long past by the time we meet this year. However, if you are here by the middle of November, you and I can meet and attend this show together. http://www.chocolateshow.com/ Let me know as soon as you hear about your job application. When you accept such an assignment, for how long do you have to sign up? MS |

Assuming I take one of those. I am there for 13 weeks at a time, at the minimum. And I would be working three 12 hour shifts per week, which leaves me 4 days off a week. However, as I would be working the night shift, one of those days would be needed for sleeping at least a few hours during the day. So, there would be plenty of time for play, eating, etc. The company houses me in furnished apartments, and I bring a fair amount of kitchen stuff, as well as some of my cookbooks, so I don't feel deprived while I am on an assignment. If I am indeed in that region, I really, really want to do a LOT of food exploring, etc. I am trying to repack my bags while I am on hiatus here in Sacramento, CA. What are the winters like there? I hope I have enough winter clothes...California winters are nothing like those eastern winters! Christine |

You'll need a warm coat for real winter. that polar fleece stuff is nice and warm, and it's lightweight...which is nice when you're not used to wearing bulky winter coats. Buy that when you get here. gloves, for sure. and a hat or scarf, maybe both. We get real winters, but it's not as bad as in Chicago or Buffalo. Snow....usually, some, but a blizzard is rare. MOstly it's just cold. I'm hoping you come to New Haven. Lots of neat restaurants between here and there. AND plenty of shopping!!! |

And I was reading a bit about it on Chowhound. Sounds like there are all sorts of interesting places up thataway... This will be very interesting, as I have spent much of the last 18 years in the SF bay area. A totally new experience, which I am looking forward to. I might get a bit homesick though, cause the bay area is loaded with great produce at all times of the year. But I expect there will be things in CT that will counterbalance that.. Now,intend that I get this assignment!!!! Christine |
