Default Electric burner odor

Has anyone ever figured out how to stop electric burners from smelling
so bad when just turned on? I have the old style of electric stove,
where the coil is on the surface of the stove & so constantly (well,
often) getting doused by overboiling, spills, etc. I clean them out,
changing the liner beneath the coil & even soaking the coil in baking
soda solution, but when I turn them on again, they smell awful. Any
ideas?

Thanks for your enlightened response. I didn't say I did the cooking,
did I? Kids in the kitchen & messes go hand in hand.

You can add a top to a stove? That would work! Any ideas on what to
search for?

Thank you, Omelet!

Your kids, you kitchen, your responsibility.

Well there's an easy solution, get rid of the kids.

That's not funny! That happened to me. Dropped off by the
school bus and no one lived there anymore. Ooops, they were
late to come pick me up and bring me to the new place. A hell
of a thing to do to a little kid. Heh.

That would be a terrible thing to have happen, but at 18, 21, 22, or
in my case, a 26 year old son living at home, it was the only thing I
could think of. LOL

(laugh) These days they can track you down on the internet or
something. Can't get away from the big kids. Luckily.

That's really easy... insist on only eating at their abodes, and if
they claim they don't have the space then better yet, then they can
treat you to eat out... if they refuse you riaised parasites. Anyone's
kids are slobs they learned that from their parents, and at this point
that they're "adults" (not!) and it's their turn to feed you but they
have accquired CCBD then YOU spoiled them rotten, you've no one to
blame but yourself. Ain't it amazing how a parent can care for three
kids for 22 years but three kids can't care for one parent for 22
seconds... but that's the parent's fault. You need to learn to say
NO... still not too late. And if you don't change then they will
continue to hold you hostage even after they shove you into the nursing
home... odds are kids like you describe won't even attend your funeral,
if they even have one.... they'll probably send your remains to the
crematorium and won't even want your ashes. You need to
rewrite your will, my friend. Leave your kids each a doormat (they're
going to need something to wipe their feet on after you're gone), leave
the entire rest of your estate to an animal shelter.

You *can* buy replacement burners!

My parents have had an electric stove for years and I never remember it
smelling. Perhaps the cleaning solution/soaking contributed to the
smell? Replace one of the burners (I think there are even a few
universal burners available) and see if that helps.
