Default Gyoza success!

I knew there was an oriental market in my town. Okay, I live
in a large town, just my section alone has its own name and post
office. So, after lunch today I decided to swing around, all the
way to the other side of town, to this place.

Got my gyoza. Had a blast, it was just like descriptions from
people here. All kinds of strange vegetables, noodles, etc etc.
Then the butcher, you could ask for some pig. They had one
roasted, hanging there, they'd hack off a piece.

Mariinated ducks, hanging by their heads. What would you do
with those? Just curious. They looked kind of cooked, but
probably not.

Oh, what's this by my feet? Oh, a window into the Tilapia
tank. Big fish, from what I could see. Got a few almond cookies,
I love those. Got a shanghai rice dumpling. This should be
interesting. And everything so cheap.

That was fun.

We did exactly the same thing yesterday. Bought dumplings, pork buns,
ribs, roast pork, some chicken, a few packs of frozen dumplings, a few
of those leaf-wrapped packet of rice and beans or pork, coconut milk,
Panang curry paste. Loads of fun.

They even had frozen durian - two kinds. I passed.

How funny, what a coincidence. I will definitely be going back there.
Just got the lay of the land on this trip.

Heh, I missed that, but no worries, I would pass on that, too.

The live Dungeness crabs? One or two of those might not be
safe.

I take a small Igloo cooler with me when I'm going to buy live Dungies
to take home. Otherwise they shred any bags. And you don't want them
crawling around your car! -aem

On one of the local food forums some guy was telling about live shrimp he
bought in Chicago's Chinatown...the shrimp were pretty lively as they
managed to jump out of their container when they were in the fridge, when he
opened the fridge they were all over the place!

No, that's far from me. This was in Middletown. Embarrassingly,
the way I carried on about no oriental food markets.

We'll have to hit that one on our next drive-to-nowhere adventure.

There is another very good one in Edison, on Rte 1.

You are fortunate to have some good markets nearby. There are quite a
few in that general area.

Don't miss the big Asian strip mall over on Rt 1 in Edison.

I have to stock up every month or so when I am in Philly, NYC or North
Jersey.

The duck certainly is at my place, but the pig is lechón.
