OBFood: Garlic and thyme meatballs in a mushroom and shallot and red
wine and demiglace sauce for dinner tonight. I came home a bit late
and started cooking before I'd heard the news of her death. Otherwise
it would have been barbecue.

Crap! I just heard this on the news headlines as I was catching up on
RFC. She will be missed.

Yeah, I'm wondering if I should whip together some Mexican food and go out
to get some beer to go with it .

Keep fightin' for freedom, as Molly may have said.

I heard the news of Molly's death when I was driving home from work.
The Seattle Times had mentioned on the op-ed page where her column
normally appeared that she was ill. I actually met her a couple of
times when I lived in Dallas in the 80's. She was friends with many
members of my former congregation. She spoke at the church a couple of
times. I also met her at the ACLU Headquarters during the '84
Republican Convention.

OB Food: SO and I are hosting the annual Super Bowl soiree on Sunday,
with two pots of chili (vegetarian with beans, and Texas carnivorous)
and chicken wings. The other attendees will bring the accoutrements.

I wonder who will pick up that torch. Man, I'm going to miss reading
her columns.

One of the newspaper columnists said that she's probably up in heaven
telling jokes at God's expense, and God is laughing right along.

Especially if God is a Texan! Molly Ivins' column was one of the things that
almost made Houston a bearable place to live. Almost ...
