I thought Ilan was total waste of space, he should not even have been
in the finale. Either Sam or Elia was better than him.

I just finished reading Bourdain's new book, the Nasty Bits, and he touches
on this. A chef who has the admiration and respect for his staff can cuss
and spew in the kitchen but sit with them afterwards and have a drink, what
is said in the kitchen stays there....I think Ilan had a decent rapport with
both of his staff, where Marcel just treated Michael and Sam as if he were
doing them a favor letting them be there......The girls wanted Ilan to win,
the guys could have given a rats ass about Marcel.....He hung himself.

Ilan was not the most versatile, but he did make the fewest mistakes of any
contestant in the whole competition, and was never on the chopping block.
He's just more consistent.
