Your post is phrased as a question, but when I read your experience with
it, it is evident that you've tried it and made up your mind about how
it works for you. What do you want to know? Whether it has helped
other people to lose weight? The answer there is yes. Whether it is
the right diet for everyone? The answer there is no.

And who wants to give up so much? I don't.
I like the Weight Watchers mindset- everything allowed, but you have to
account for it to keep in balance.

Personally, I think the Atkins Diet is too strict. It works well as a
crash diet, but it's not a lifestyle. I could never give up
carbohydrates completely. I have tried The South Beach Diet in the
past, and it worked really well. For the first two weeks you can't
eat any carbs whatsoever. So I basically ate eggs, cheese, chicken,
fish, and veggies. You can lose about 7 to 12 pounds in that period.
Then in Phase 2, you can start eating good carbs, like fruit and whole
wheat products. You stay on that until you reach your ideal weight.
Phase 3 is pretty much a lifestyle, with one major restriction. You
have to stay away from white flour! And sugar is really frowned
upon. I highly recommend this diet. Although, it's not for everyone.

Actually I have read the book on the Atkins' approach. You only go with out
carbs, sugars and such for 1 to 2 weeks then bring it back into your diet
in smaller portions from then on. Not much different than most diets which
all make me glad I don't have a weight problem.
