Default Philly Bans Trans Fats from Restaurants

Philly Bans Trans Fats from Restaurants

Philadelphia became one of the first cities in the country Thursday to ban
partially hydrogenated oils from restaurants.

The mayor and members of City Council signed the ban into law at a City
Hall ceremony Thursday morning.

It's aimed at keeping those artery clogging trans fats out of diners diets.

Juan Ramos, of Philadelphia City Council, says “There's going to be a very
intensive public education campaign not just for our citizens here but also
to the restaurant industry which will include assisting them in identifying
oils and other products.”

The ban will go into effect on September first of this year for
restaurants. Bakeries will have to be in compliance the year after that.
