I ordered a Batali 6-qt enameled cast iron pot on the 17th, received
it yesterday, the 21st. Good, fast shipping. Bought 2-17; cost $79, marked down from $99; today I see it is on sale for $69. I have often wondered if Amazon ships without knowing whether a product is defective in some way, as they cannot check every item they send out. Once I went to a lot of trouble returning a broken item, vowing never to try to return a product again as I did not get all my money back, as there were shipping charge adjustments. I received some defective Fiesta bowls and I contacted Fiesta and they were kind enough to make good my bowls. So today I am wondering about my pot because it is chipped on the top rim a little, which is not enough to matter (I don't think) in the scheme of cooking. http://tinypic.com/2exvnv5.jpg I will not return it because it does weigh a lot, but would like to get another $10 off, since it has been so little a time, since I ordered it. But I suppose they are not like my good-friend Costco, who will make good on an item that has been reduced within 30 days after purchase. The numbers I called Amazon were 206-266-2335 - discontinued and 1-800-201-7575 - automated directions, no way to get to a person Thanks for reading. Dee |

I was pleased about that. I didn't mention the chip as I am pondering it. Shipping it back is so difficult and I am also wondering if they will have any left to re- ship after it is received. Of course, the longer I wait, they will not have any left. But, I'm wondering about your remark, "it's dangerous to use with that chip." That concerns me. I recall so well my experience with Le Creuset and trying to get replacements for 3 pieces. I posted the pictures previously and as I recall, many thought I had disrespected (to use a new word) my pots. Actually I didn't use them any longer because I felt that I had digested all of the enamel (glass/sand) that had come off into the cooking. Here is the url I posted long ago. http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com...reusetpots.htm I think of it every time someone asks about the Le Creuset. Regarding the chip, can you tell me what the concerns are? Appreciated. PS, Yes, I copied the email with the information you sent. Thanks again. Dee |

It also has the link to their return policies. If the product you received is defective or wrong they will pay the return shipping. I think (but it has been a while) that when we returned a defective product that they issued a call tag and UPS picked it up. -- Susan N. Porcelainized cookware is very old fashioned, developed as a way to have nonreactive cookware before the advent of stainless steel. I'd not own any porcelainized cast iron, none are worth the ridiculously high prices they charge, and none offer any cooking advantage... other than that they are available in pretty colors that may match your panties. And if you must have pretty cookware crockery ovenware is in every way a far superior choice. Were it you asked my opinion I'd say send it back for a credit and buy something else.... I truly don't comprehend your aversion to repacking that piece and sending it back... typically Amazon will send the carrier to pick it up. I make a lot of purchases from Amazon, occasionally I do return something because it arrived damaged, I've had absolutely no problems with making returns, Amazon is much too big to hassle its customers over returns. People who are in love with Le Creuset and its ilk do indeed have more dollars than brain cells... it's just cheapo cast iron after all... no cast iron pot is worth more than $10-$15... and only that because it makes a good door stop. If as you say it weighs too much for you to do a one time return than it certainly weighs too much for you to live with for frequent or even occasional use as cookware. Please send it back, it's damaged beyond utileness... were that chip on the exterior then it would be a cosmetic blemish there's little danger, but with that chip at the top inside edge (I only now just looked at your pic) that pot is literally scrap... send it back, use it as a planter, or toss it into the trash, but do not use it as cookware. All anyone need do is use the Amazon call- back thingie posted in my previous thread... an Amazon rep WILL call back and WILL rectify any and all problems a customer may have, and PLEASANTLY I may add. I make a lot of purchases from Amazon and have not had any problems with returns (although I haven't had many), and if for whatever reason a customer is not happy with a product Amazon will refund their money. Amazon likes to keep their customers happy because Amazon likes to keep their customers. I do a lot of shopping on line with various estores and have never yet had a problem that wasn't rectified to my satisfaction (and I've not had many problems that needed rectifying)... can't say that about the brick and mortars. Thanks > again. > Dee Over time and with use that chip will become larger (that area will also rust), and porcelain is glass (that's not enamel, it's porcelain), so where do you think the next glass sliver will end up... in sombody's intestines of course... chipped porcelainized cookware is very dangerous, get rid of it. I'm not buying your excuses. You can write whole words, and you seem to have little difficulty as evidenced by your ability to provide a rapid response to what I've written. The fact that you selectively use shorthand makes you a whiner. Save the sob-story about MS; you are just trying to justify your sheer laziness. I have more experience and firsthand knowlege with MS than you know. -- Dave www.davebbq.com |

Some products are shipped from other suppliers and some are shipped directly from Amazon... it almost always says at the site, and will indicate on the confirm email. But regardless, Amazon stands behind everything you buy from their site. Out of hundreds of purchases I've made over the years from Amazon I can only think of five items that arrived damaged (3 books and 2 picture frames) and one that I was just not satisfied with (a golf shirt that was a gift, was much too short). In all cases Amazon made good. I'm sure there are people who return more than they keep, those will be duly noted and eventually will be dealt with regardless from which store they patronize. I'm happy with most everything I buy on line so the few times I have a complaint I've had no problem receiving satisfaction... ebusinesses see your entire history when they bring up your name, they know immediately who are good customers and who are the trouble makers. Why fill out a form just to have them call back right after you get an important call? Sheesh. I just called, pressed 7 (had you read with comprehension), and got to speak with someone in under 15 seconds. I told them I had a return, didn't have an order #, but that my name was "Sheldon Katz". They said, "Oh yeah. The life-size, latex Mister T Doll. We've had a lot of complaints about that one. We'll send you out a UPS Call Tag and credit your account when we receive it.". -sw |

Stan Horwitz > wrote:
> > Do you really think Amazon opens every package they sell and inspects it? Of course they don't. Your statement is just plain silly, actually it's totally assinine. No store regularly opens packaging to inspect products... most products wouldn't get sold, least not as new, if the seal was broken (even major appliances get delivered in a sealed box), there's no way to know if your new fridge is goin to work until you plug it in. That's why stores have floor models and demos... even with pots... 99.99% of damage occurs in transit (has not a whit to do with Amazon, happens equally with all retailers), and although I sometimes recieve a carton that was damaged to some degree in transit I've yet to open one to find a damaged product... modern packaging materials are pretty good. Dee Dee's chipped pot was just one of those flukes (no one can say with certainty where that chip occured), but in a way it was a good thing... because I truly hope this incident impels her to reconsider and that she sends it back and chooses something else... there are plenty of 6qt pots in that price range that are a much better choice. In fact just yesterday I recieved a replacement Bluetooth keyboard, mouse, and transsmitter from Dell (something was wrong with the original transmitter but still they send the entire set-up). The package arrived in under 24 hours (DHL is fast), didn't expect it for maybe a week. Anyway I got a phone call from a Dell rep yesterday to ask if I received the package... couldn't believe they'd be calling so fast, it was only shipped in the late afternoon of the previous day... when I looked outside my side door there it was, it was only 2:15, coulda been there for hours. But I noticed one corner was crushed in. When I opened the carton there was another carton inside with lots of packing foam inbetween, there was no damage at all to the inner carton and the contents are perfect. Anyway, I'd much rather suffer a product damaged in transit from doing mail order than driving to a store only to come out and find my car dented in, or worse having an accidenmt coming or going, maybe getting dead over a friggin' pot, that I can order from the comfort of my home while sitting in my skivvies sipping a tall one. Only the most derranged of idiots rather drive to the store because they're too tight, Stan, to pay a few dollars shipping... like driving is free... sheesh! And all I need do to return the old merchandise is pack it in the carton that the new one arrived in and phone for pick-up, don't have to go anywhere other than walk to my side door and leave the box where I found it... what could be easier. Buying on line is the greatest thing since sliced bread... I don't get all bent out of shape if occasionally something needs to be returned, for whatever reason... when all I need do is spend five minutes on the phone. Sheldon |
