Apparently they thought he was completely unelectable. And surely also, you remember the talking heads all but saying we should just forgo the congressional elections in 06 because the GOP was completely unbeatable? I am befuddled with all of this presidential election talk when we have not so much as had the first primary. Way too early for you to be so confident. Paul |

You're entitled? You ****ing dolt. Put down the booze, come back tomorrow, and explain the entire premise of your original post in this thread. Since you're too hammered to understand the word "premise", here's something for you. Have your toilet explain it to you. Main Entry: 1prem·ise Variant(s): also pre·miss /'pre-m&s/ Function: noun Etymology: in sense 1, from Middle English premisse, from Anglo-French, from Medieval Latin praemissa, from Latin, feminine of praemissus, past participle of praemittere to place ahead, from prae- pre- + mittere to send; in other senses, from Middle English premisses, from Medieval Latin praemissa, from Latin, neuter plural of praemissus 1 a : a proposition antecedently supposed or proved as a basis of argument or inference; specifically : either of the first two propositions of a syllogism from which the conclusion is drawn b : something assumed or taken for granted : PRESUPPOSITION 2 plural : matters previously stated; specifically : the preliminary and explanatory part of a deed or of a bill in equity 3 plural [from its being identified in the premises of the deed] a : a tract of land with the buildings thereon b : a building or part of a building usually with its appurtenances (as grounds) |

He surely would have been and the votes were there in the senate to convict. So he was talked into resigning. Clinton was impeached. He was never convicted in fact the senate exonerated him of the charges. An impeachment is the equivalent of a criminal indictment. Paul |

sf wrote:
>> You're OK with an impeached president back in the white house (as 1st >> "Gentleman")? > > Nixon was impeached, not Clinton. WHAT? Where do you get these idea? Clinton was impeached. From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impeachment: "Impeachment is so rare that the term is often misunderstood. A typical misconception is to confuse it with involuntary removal from office; in fact, it is only the legal statement of charges, parallelling an indictment in criminal law. An official who is impeached faces a second legislative vote (whether by the same body or another), which determines conviction, or failure to convict, on the charges embodied by the impeachment." In the USA, impeachment of the President is done by the House of Representatives. They did vote to impeach Clinton, and delivered the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate on December 19, 1998. The Senate chose not to remove Clinton from office, but that doesn't take away the fact that he was impeached. Nixon wasn't impeached. He resigned before the House began the impeachment process. Are you SURE you're a teacher? Bob |

The legislators actually outsleazed the sleazy President in the whole matter. An abuse of the system, in my view. > Nixon was impeached, not Clinton. No. Impeachment refers to a specific process where charges are brought by the legislative body. It doesn't denote actual guilt. Clinton was impeached on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice, then acquitted. Nixon was not impeached. He resigned before it could be carried out. -- Reg |

A great many of U.S. Presidents had affairs and many were not so discreet. However, in earlier times, the Press made a point of protecting the image of the President whether dalliances or ill health. Women everywhere have to put up with men that can't keep their pants zipped. It is sheer stupidity to advocate that a woman give up all aspirations in her life because her spouse sniffs around. I've never done it with banana bread (great idea, Gloria), but have made a recipe that Penzey's had in their catalog a while back. These are soooo good: Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins - Penzey's 1/2 C. butter, softened 1 1/4 C. sugar 2 eggs 1 T. vanilla extract 1 1/2 C. flour (I used cake flour) 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1 C. ripe bananas, mashed (about 2 bananas) 1/2 C. mini chocolate chips Lightly grease 2 12 cup muffin tins and set aside. Preheat oven to 350° F. Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla. In separate bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, and cinnamon. Stir into bowl with butter mixture and mix until just blended. Fold in bananas and chocolate chips. Spoon batter into muffin tins, filling 18 of the holes to 3/4 full. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. -- Jani in WA |
