I posted an inquiry here late in December asking if anyone knew why the
recipe called for them * what purpose did they serve. I also called Lynn Rosetto Kasper of National Public Radio's "The Splendid Table" program and asked her. FWIW, our conversation about it will be part of this weekend's broadcast. It's available as a podcast, too. The Q&A part of her show is in the second half of the hour. I get her podcast since her show is broadcast here when I'm always doing something else. Now I'll be able to have Barb's voice on my computer! Kasper is just so smart about food. Her podcasts from Italy were awesome (and often touching). The only thing I don't like about her show is when Chris Kimball is on for that weird bit on how to make a meal for the weird ingredients in your refrigerator. I don't like the way he treats Lynn; he makes fun of her. Emma |
