They say it contains Omega 3 etc.

I read on the net about it being produced from some kind of rap seed
of some sort. Has anybody uses this oil and what do think of it??

Thanks.

It's named after Canada Oil, Can Oil, Canola. It was invented in
Manitoba, I think. It's has a high smoke point.

It's very pretty when it blooms. Imagine a prairie of yellow.

Lies. All lies. It contains thallium.

You read about it, but you can't spell it?

Think about what? Canola oil's color? Its smell? Its taste? Its political
views?

The field at the end of our road (about 20 yards away) has been used for
rape seed for the last couple of years, hopefully it will be left fallow
this year, it looks great, a field of yellow, but it's the only thing that
causes my husband to get hay fever. His eyes stream, his nose runs, and he
looks miserable, and it's only when the end field is in flower!

I find it useful. You should taste it yourself. Some people hate mustard,
but you might love it.

contains natural hormones.

Not the greatest analogy.

It should be more like, "you should taste it. If you like mustard,
some people hate dijon, but you might love it."

Then, what's the point of talking about these sorts of things? (e.g.,
newsgroup discussion)

Karen, do you like mayonnaise? Don't tell me brand names. Just yes or no. Do
you like mayo?

Is this a rhetorical question?

Wise guy. It's getting late. Let's finish this. If you like the taste of a
certain food, does anyone else's opinion determine whether you continue
liking that food, or not?

I have been using it for years along with olive oil, and have no complaints.

Let's say it is mayonnaise. I like mayonnaise but I know I don't like
the generic brands of mayonaisse. I may ask a question "is the Trader
Joe's brand of mayonnaise similar to Best Foods or generic Safeway
brand?"

If someone said TJs mayo is like Best Foods, I'd buy it. But, if
someone said, "it's like Miracle Whip," well, I'd still try it. But,
if someone said that it was similar to generic stuff, I'd save my
money. I'd probably even take your opinion on TJs mayonnaise into
account.

Anyway, that's my point about researching opinions.

Oh well. I consider it dangerous, and sometimes goofy, like Consumer Reports
reviews of canned soup, or worse, stereo speakers. Too subjective.

That's sort of where I was coming from. I seem to recall someone here saying
they couldn't stand the smell of canola oil. Today, someone said he abhors
olive oil. What kind of person would allow their personal opinions to be
swayed by such comments? The comments are valid only for the people who made
them.

No, my point is why are YOU posting about canola oil if you think it's
a waste of time?

My point exactly. You didn't start it, you have no real opinion on
canola, you are not inquiring about it, you have nothing to add about
canola oil, you feel opinions on products are useless and more. So,
why didn't you just not post about canola oil?

It would be like someone who doesn't like film, doesn't want to talk
about movies, the producers, the actors, the music, the ticket prices,
the popcorn, or anything about movies. Take that person and have him
walk into the theater and say to all of the other movie-goers, "I
don't watch movies."

Why would someone do that?

Neutral in flavor, decent smoke point, pretty good in monounsaturated
fats.

I use it for stir-fry and other dishes where I don't want olive oil.

So do I, but I usually grab the most convenient one of Canola,
grapeseed, or peanut oil. Most of the time it's Canola.

Rapeseed....

I love canola oil! I used to use peanut oil exclusively, then canola
came onto the market. It cost less, had the same qualities.... I
switched.
