Default Out to lunch

On March 14th, I dutifully made corned beef and cabbage. My wife
gracefully accepted it without comment. When I went to bed, I watched a
new "Good Eats" episode featuring corned beef. I believe I saw something
else on Saint Patrick on that day. All was well.
Now I find out that Saint Patrick's Day is tomorrow! My wife is corned
beef uninterested and in other Irish dishes o' the day. She says I did
the same thing last year. It's hell growing old.

There's a way out with honor. Since you Saint Patricked on 3.14 you can
bake a pi on 3.17 and come out even.

my not-SIL called this morning & was shocked to hear that we
actually *eat* corned beef (& it's my 6 year old's favorite
food).
other perfectly good Irish dishes are salmon, as you say
(salmon pie is good), beef or lamb stew, pasties (meat pies),
fish stews... ok, it's cold here. i think more of stews/soups
when it's cold.
Guiness isn't all that good. i do use it for cooking if we
don't have anything better around. i've got a great coffee
oatmeal stout recipe. i also have a chocolate mint stout,
which i wasn't crazy about, but the brew club guys raved
about.

I love corned beef. I make it a couple times a year.

Yeah. We got a winter smackdown going on here, too.
Just when I thought we were out.

It's not my cup of tea, either. Harrrr.

Wow, that's different. I have heard of raspberry, honey, that
kind of beef flavoring. Chocolate mint, how bad could it be?
Match made in heaven.

Here at Chateau Contrarian, we had grilled shrimp with some other stuff.
There are about a dozen snakes I'd like run out of THIS country. When that
happens, I'll have a corned beef feast.

Same here. A foot of the heavy kind, and more's on the way. You may find
this helpful, if you're getting batty from the snow:

Page down a little.

Extremely silly.

i stocked up last week. flat cut is around $5/pound here
except the week before St.Patrick's Day. it's a cheap cut of
meat, so i don't get that.

we got about a foot of snow before it changed over to
sleet/rain last night. it's just above freezing now. my last
frost date is around May 9th, & i've had 3' of snow fall in
late April (& then it got up to 70 the same day!)

it did mellow out after about a month or 6 weeks in the
bottle. a week after bottling it was just overwhelming mint
& hops, which isn't really a good combo. you could barely
taste the chocolate. tomorrow we're brewing maple beer
(using maple sap instead of the water). in another 8 weeks
or so i'm hoping we can brew another batch of spruce beer.
that needs the fresh new growth of the spruce trees, so it's
something we can only do in the spring. it's quite good.

We're doing CB&C tomorrow. Hey, it's tradition (in our family). And I
love it. Check this out:

We had freezer-section taquitos in deference to our Irish friends in
Mexico.

Ah, Irish-American. Close enough. Perhaps I'll give my sweetie a box of
chocolates on February 17th next year.

I think you mixed up St. Patrick's Day (3/17)
with St. Valentine's Day (2/14).

There are so many saints, it's not surprising
you'd do that. Want us to remind you next year?

I suppose I'll need a wris****ch too. I'd like to complete my life
without either. My St. Pat's Day fiasco belies that.
