So, I buy a bar of Cadbury's at a CVS around the corner.

Good chocolate, right? Yeah- I know -- it's not Neuhaus or some super
fine Belgian or Swiss delicacy.

It's just a basic, good-tasting chocolate for what it's worth. No
more, no less.

Then I bite into it-- and my jaw freezes. Ugh-- that chalky taste and
shoe polish finish seems familiar.... this tastes nothing like
chocolate. WHich means, it tastes just like, like...

I look at the back of the label. Sure enough:

"Manufactured by HERSHEY, under license from the Cadbury Company"

There really should be a ****ing law.

Strange. I have had those and they taste just fine. I'm not sure I've
even had anything else though.

My very favorite chocolate bar is the Carmello, though. I like
Symphany very much too. The real expensive chocolate is not my
favorite, especially things like Godiva. It's good, but not worth the
price to me. I do like Dove and a lot of the Toberleone (sp) brands
though.

I have a worse copyright problem. At least it told you you were buying
a Hershey product and nobody was trying to screw either Hershey or
Cadbury, but I once bought some choc. covered cheeries. The big brand
of course is Brach's Cordial Cheeries in the familiar red and white
box. When I got them home and read the fine print it said Broch's
cordially yours cheeries. They tasted like wax candles too. dkw

i'm in the boonies. Shaw's (45 minute drive) is the
supermarket that i know carries Cadbury's (& Areo bars, which
used to be Nestle's but now are an import only item)

I'm with you - never liked Cadbury's - too thick, sweet and cloying.
And a double "ick" for milk chocolate. ;-) They need to hire some
dark chocolate bunnies.

you obviously haven't had one in *quite* a while, because
Reese Candy merged with Hershey's in 1963! oh, and they used
Hershey's chocolate from the time the company started.

here's an article on Hershey's & Cadbury that explains why
Cadbury has Hershey's making the bars:

Hmmm? I only just noticed it on the label recently.
I always thought the chocolate on a Reese's Peanut
Butter Cup was pretty decent. Although, now that you
mention it, it seems to me that Hershey's chocolate
used to be a lot better than it is now, or maybe I
was less discriminating in my younger days. Hershey's
kisses are the absolute worst. They have a texture like
they have sawdust in them as filler. I haven't had a
plain Hershey's chocolate bar in years. I prefer
Nestle's when I do have one. Well actually I prefer
Cadbury's Milk Chocolate when I can get that.

Hell, no! That would be sacrilege. However, Heinz
make a superior product. Hershey does not. It's not
so much PA patriotism but choosing the best quality
wherever it's from.

You are aware that Dove is owned by Mars?

I'm loving all this Ferrero and Peregina chocolate that I'm having over
here. The Mon Cheri in the states is totally different than the ones
here...here they're a cherry with cherry brandy inside dark chocolate.
There there hazelnuts inside. I may never eat any american brand of
chocolate again...

I bet there isn't a food provider in the country that will announce in
block-high letters that THIS BAG OF SUGAR IS NOW 4 POUNDS INSTEAD OF 5
POUNDS BUT IT COSTS THE SAME, or THIS CAN OF COFFEE USED TO BE A 16-
OUNCE CAN, BUT FOR THE SAME PRICE, NOW YOU CAN HAVE 12 OUNCES!

LOL.

Speaking of Mars, there's a town near Pittsburgh
named Mars. I've known about it my whole live and
I'm sort of used to it but the other day I read
something in the newspaper about someone "moving
to Mars" and I just had this hilarious image of
them packing up their rocket ship . . . .

Yeah, that one get's me, too. There oughta be a law!
It's got so I check everything now to make sure it has
the right quantity in it. The 12-oz. package of bacon
really gripes me!
