Carol's message in the blog:

Gone
Bob died in his sleep this afternoon. It was as peaceful as anyone could
have wished: I was sitting beside him, and he breathed in, and out, and
didn't breathe in again. He had been unconscious since yesterday evening and
showed no signs of distress at any point.

This morning, I read him his latest messages and talked to him, and stroked
his hand. I doubt he heard or felt any of it, but if part of his brain was
still on duty, all he heard during his last hours were the voices of his
family and all he felt were the touches of warm blankets and loving hands.

It was everything I could have asked for, except to have him back. Gone

How wonderful for those around him, and Bob himself.

The conventional and hospice care wisdom is to assume he/anyone in that
condition can hear everything even though they may not be able to respond..

I was with my FIL at his last moments. The family had been around all day and
had left for the cafeteria. I had not said a word all day till that time. I
leaned over Charlie who's breathing had been labored and whispered " Charlie you
don't have to do anything you don't want to anymore". He then took 1 last
breath and passed on.

I hope the family can garner strength from those who share their loss.

makes us all the richer.

My heartfelt condolences to the family and to everyone who cared about Bob. I did not
know him well, but I am grateful, nonetheless, that he passed peacefully and with his
loved ones surrounding him.

I believe that, although they are unable to respond, people in his situation can
indeed hear our words and feel our love. God Bless Carol, and Godspeed, Bob.

Heartfelt sympathies from both my husband and I. We went thru very
similar time with his dad just 3 years ago. It's something you never
forget, wish it didn't happen but would want for yourself, too, under
these circumstances. Family all around, the peace of your home, I
wouldn't want it any other way.

In case Bob's family is reading this thread; I'm merely a stranger to
Bob but my thoughts are with him and those that love him. I hope that

My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Whatta great guy! I will miss
his wit, his wonderful turn of phrase. Leave it to Bob to go out on April
1! I'll check the blog to see if there's information about where to send a
remembrance.

I too had been hoping for a miracle and remembering the advanced cancer that
Lance Armstrong had and yet survived. Alas, this was not meant to be for
Bob.
