I made a large strawberry and amaretto trifle to feed a LOT of people
for a potluck. (It will feed like 30 people, it was to be a 100 person deal) DH just called and it's cancelled. We're going to be eating trifle for days now. -- God got a virgin pregnant by magic; God doesn't play by the rules. -Izzy, Grey's Anatomy |

Have you ever used cointreau or grand marnier instead of amaretto with the strawberries? Got any friends, relatives or neighbours to invite around for an impromptu trife-centered gettogether? Trifle is delicious but there are limits to how much one person can eat :P |

It is a pot luck and you are expected to prepare enough for 30????? I thought the idea of pot luck was that everyone tool enough to feed themselves and pooled the efforts. If 30 people each took enough for 30 there would be enough food for 900. That is a lot of leftovers, or is it one of those deals where a small core of people work their asses off and most of the rest get a freebie. |

Why does this remind me of an episode of the sitcom 'Friends'? Jennifer Anniston was making Trifle from a magazine and the pages got stuck together and she mixed up two recipes. Ground beef in fruit trifle? And everyone was pretending it was so good (and normal). LOL Sorry about your cancelled pot luck thing. At least you didn't add ground beef! Jill |

Amaretto is my favorite liqueur; there is nothing wrong with it. Orange is also a nice complement to strawberries. Not really apropos to the info from the poster but it seems worthwhile mentioning that the traditional British liquor in trifles is a medium sweet sherry. Bristol Cream should work well. I don't think 30 people bringing food for 30 is enough food for 900 people, Dave. I think it's a lot more likely that each of the 30 people (assuming that's how many are eating) are likely to take one serving (more if it's tasty) of maybe 5-7 of the offerings. When we had potlucks at church, we'd prepare a dish for maybe 8-12 people. One didn't necessarily sample each of the dishes. And one always had a serving of more than one dish * too tempting to not. :-) -- -Barb, Mother Superior, HOSSSPoJ http://jamlady.eboard.com - Comfort Food for Bob Pastorio, updated 3-16-2007 http://web.mac.com/barbschaller - blahblahblog - Orange Honey Garlic Chicken, 3-29-2007 http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/amytaylor |

Do the math. 30 people each bringing enough for 30 is 900. If it is couples, and each couple brings enough for 30 then it is enough for 450. As it turns out according to the OP's response, it was the latter, more of a semi pot luck where a small core bring the food and the majority bring an appetite. |

Yes, 30x30 is 900. It's 900 servings of food but all I'm saying is that each individual is probably going to have one serving of more than one food. -- -Barb, Mother Superior, HOSSSPoJ http://jamlady.eboard.com - Comfort Food for Bob Pastorio, updated 3-16-2007 http://web.mac.com/barbschaller - blahblahblog - Orange Honey Garlic Chicken, 3-29-2007 http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/amytaylor |
