It seems that everything that Emeril does that 'bugs' people is really being
done to the extreme now. The humming (especially when applying salt), the
constant question, "Do you follow me?", the, "Oh yeah, babe.", the BAM, the "I
don't know where you get your _______, but where I get mine, it don't come
seasoned. And the audience reaction to him also seems to have gotten worse,
especially the applause when he adds garlic. It's starting to sound like "Tool
Time."

I see you're on an Emeril kick again. Please tell us why you watch
him. There must be a reason. Could it be because he could outcook
you in a heartbeat? Or maybe because he's famous? Maybe you like
the band? I liked the show he had Sammy Hagar on a few months ago. A
white pizza with shrimp. YUM!!!

I don't watch Emeril very often because I've mastered the skills
needed to use the remote control

I enjoy watching Emeril. I take him with a grain of salt. The one
thing that he needs to understand is that people watch his show often
and there for his quips become ubiquitous and tiresome. Example "you
thought these were the cheap seats". He is a creative cook or at
least he has creative people with him. He is ridiculed because he
made cooking shows mainstream and entertaining, a little off beat. I
enjoy it he just needs to change it up a bit.

Some media "personalities" eventually turn into caricatures of
themselves. I find Emeril annoying, so I don't watch.

I also don't care for 'live audience' presentations. I've really
enjoyed many of Martin Yan's shows, but when he has an audience, he
becomes a clown.

When I first got the Food channel, I was appalled at an audience
(Emeril's) that would *applaud* the addition of tomatoes to a salad.
Maybe that's a condition of a free ticket to a taping -- you must look
absolutely hypnotized, and shout and whistle whenever garlic is
mentioned. Silly.

Actually, this is usually true when attending *any* TV taping.

Applause, cheering, laughter, etc. must almost always be overly exaggerated
(either on the obvious cue of the studio or the host of the show) during the
taping process. The theory is that when the show is broadcast on TV, it has
to look good and sound good. If the audience is fairly dull during the TV
taping, the show itself will seem even more dull when it is broadcast on TV.

Vendettas aside, Emeril couldn't get much sillier than he always was, if
he tried. He is like a caricature of a real person.

You have to realize that he's an entertainer first and a cook second.
He plays (or overplays) to the audience and gets big ratings in teh
process.

Have to admit to a serious Food TV habit, but move on when Emeril comes up in
the lineup. He may well be cooking something interesting but I can't bear the
witless enthusiasm his audiences are goaded into displaying every blessed time
he mentions "kicking it up a notch," "BAM" or adding garlic or booze to a dish.
The schtick might be "cute" once or twice, but now it's like fingernails on a
blackboard. I think it's time for Emeril to hire some writers or take the
money and run.
