I can't speak for Avanti, but usually you can light the range, but not the oven. nancy |

Instead, I bought one that has the raised "grates" just right over the burners. With the full-surface grates, the pans can go anywhere on top of the range. I hope I've made sense with my description? If there's no electricity, one can manually light the stove top burners with a match or lighter, but it won't be possible to use the oven because the thermostat and electric oven ignition won't work without the "juice." That is, it's not possible to manually light the oven because the natural gas can't get to it (or something like that!). Sky |

Most electronic ranges you can light the burners if the power is out, but
not the oven. -- Helen in FERGUS/HARLINGEN http://www.mompeagram.homestead.com/index.html "ilaboo" > wrote in message news:vwi_h.29385$Cx1.8693@trnddc01... > planning to pruchase avanti gas range--i know that newer ranges have > electronic ignition--can i light the range if the electricity is > off--which is rather freguent in my neighboorhood -- ? also what about > the oven--can i light it wshen the electricity is off? > > any help is appreciated > > tia > peter > > |

If the powers off, yu can't light the oven. You can light the burners with a match or clicker but you usually can't get to the ignitor in the ovens. Melondy |
