What Does This Kitchen Gadget Do ???

The obvious guess is that it's for cooking either
a whole chicken or some eggs.

But there are only four holes in the ceramic
plate that fits in the bottom, and the holes
are too small for eggs.

I'd guess it's for steaming a whole chicken,
but who wants steamed chicken? Seems like
it'd be an awful mess, and not for anything
particularly good. It might be a useful
appliance for somebody who did not have
an oven.

Its an egg boiler. The 4 holed disc with the notch holds the eggs.

Now that you mention it, the dimensions do seem
much too small for a chicken, or even a chicken
quarter. I think the egg theory makes more sense,
but for steamed rather than boiled eggs.

Though, I'm not sure there's an advantage
in steaming vs. boiling eggs. Less electricity?
Faster? Less chance of breakage?

Aha! The first one is missing a piece!

Good catch, Gil!

It's an egg boiler.

There should be fill lines inside, probably located under the metal
plate that say "soft, mediium, hard".
