Opened up a brand name (pop-top) can of chicken broth 2 hours ago.
Smelled/tasted good. Expires in 2009. Used it in a pasta dish. At the last few bites, I noticed tiny black flecks (not pepper). I dissected the empty can, and found a 1/4" layer of black junk right at the top rim of the can. Freaking out, I called the manufacturer who said it's a breakdown of the can's lining and interaction with the food. Said it's not a health/safety hazard, and I won't be sick, but I'm still a nervous wreck. Anyone know or have a guess what this stuff is? On a Qtip, it looks like wet dark black powder. I tried googling it, but to no avail. Help? |
