Dang! I wasn't the tinfolier!
The only Momma I have is MIL - just spent a week with her, so I have
no desire to see her any time soon, LOL...

I am hoping to get a day off from being Mommy, myself!

I'll be heading to Jacksonville, FL early morning tomorrow for my Monday
appt. at the Mayo Clinic, so we won't be spending Mother's Day with my MIL.
We are going to stop by her house to give her a bottle of wine *this*
afternoon, though. My mom lives in Wisconsin, so any thought of physical
contact with her is moot. I may call her on the ride up since we're
overnighting at a place north of Jacksonville and I've got about 6 hours on
the ride up to kill. I'll definitely be taking a few books on the trip, but
reading in the car always puts me to sleep and then I get taunted by my
husband saying "wakey-wakey". Unfortunately, he feels that if he has to
stay awake to drive, then I have to stay awake, too, just out of
consideration. The schmuck! :~)

DH has been at a conference in Denver this past week, so my mom came down to
visit and give me a hand. Hubby's due back home around 5:00 today and has
told me to take my mom out tonight while he watches the kids. We're probably
going to go on a ghost tour of our city (it's considered to be "the most
haunted town in Maryland"), which is something she and I have been wanting
to do for awhile. Will probably go out to dinner beforehand.

My mom has "ordered" DH and me to go out to dinner on Mother's Day, sans
kids. We always appreciate an opportunity for a date night (even though I
usually don't like to go out to eat on holidays like MD and VD).

Nice! Sounds like an "everybody wins" arrangement.

My DS just called to inform me that he and his GF will be coming here to
visit me for Mom's Day tomorrow.
Guess who's cooking the "special meal"? LOL.

Yeah, can be a bit difficult with Moms being so far away.

I'm hitting the old cheese's (MILs) place tomorrow, after a memorial
service, and I'll be taking a shiteload of prawns/seafood with us so that
meal time is not going to be a hassle.

We'll go up and spend time with my 94-in-a-couple-of-weeks Mom, but my
daughter's in a play this weekend and that means not a lot of time for
anything else. My gift from dd is a ticket to the play, School House
Rock Live!

We observed Unmother's Day in our home. My husband and children always took
me out for dinner on a day other than Mother's Day, usually the day before
or after, so I would be "special"!

My MiL died more than 20 years ago. We still miss her, but for the life of
me I don't think I could have spent week with her.

I will cook a nice meal for my wife for Mother's Day and we will be sure to
toast my recently departed mother.

*I* an "the mom" now.... and not feeling well. Apparently, daughter
called last night with plans she's cooked up with some friends at work
to take their mothers out to a nice restaurant for brunch so the moms
can meet each other and their daughter's work friends. Nice idea, but
I'm not up to it. Going to the Dr. today, maybe he'll give me a magic
feel better pill.

I suppose I could burn a candle on top of the memory box that holds her
ashes... :-(

I do plan to send my sister flowers however.
She _is_ a mom!

well, the whole tribe's coming here to my place (somehow it got volunteered

Another RFC-er told me today that he still cooks a special meal for his
Mom on Mother's Day (even tho' she is gone).
I thought that was a great idea. I hope my children will do the same for me.

This year, my mother and two oldest siblings are in Arizona on a
birdwatching trip, so I'm kind of off the hook for this Mother's Day.
We don't make a huge fuss about it in our family, but I always
acknowledge the day enough to say "Thanks and I love you." Often,
it's a card, a bouquet or some other little present. Breakfast in bed
is right out, since she live's an hour's drive away from me, anyway.
Everything would just get cold on the way over. =o)

Gee, that's a funky idea, a group Mother's Day with a gang you don't
know, and not much notice, literally none... hopefully kidlet will
honor a rain check when you're feeling better. Somehow I think the
other moms will bow out.

Hmm, apparently there are swingers all over.
Gee Cathy, and you seem so straight laced, I never would have thunk...

I rather like that idea, thanks! :-)
I have some large shrimp thawing now...

She did last year. I made sure they sent chocolate truffles with it.
She is still in Arizona but they are moving back here next month!!! I'm
so exited as they are moving HERE instead of San Antonio.

Now I get to spend more time with the boys and watch them grow up. They
are 3 and 5. My sister is 10 years younger than I am.

Next year, I take her out to lunch at the place of her choice. ;-)

I agree on the feel better soon part, but if she doesn't "need" to
tell us anything, there's no reason to.

David, not into telling other people what they need to do

All the time she was alive, my mom used guilt whenever she could, on
any occasion. I happened to have moved back to where she was living
for one of her last MD's. I bought her an Impatiens plant, and she
called it Impatience. Yes. That was my point.

That's so nice! Neither of my siblings ever married, so the only
nieces and nephews are on my DH's side. He has two brothers and two
sisters so we've got a slew of them, but I still wish I had a couple
on my side.

I chose "Got something else planned" -- my mom died almost 10
years ago, so I took her favorite yellow roses to the cemetary
today. I also sent my step-mother a nice card. Tomorrow will be
reserved for me, since I'm the mom now... :-)
